Heaven and hell

Let us assume that the spectrum of human feelings runs from pure bliss to pure agony, that is from heaven to hell. Assume further that people in general prefer to exist nearer the heavely than the hellish end of this spectrum. There are of course people that seem to prefer hell, but this may be heaven for them. Why this is so depends on the individual personality, which we take to be a product of nature and nurture. It is not uncommon to see people who have grown up in very difficult circumstances carrying emotional disabilities that may result from those circumstances.
