Gravitation is blind to all subsequent developments. Blind to = has insufficient memory to resolve.

[page 18]

If general relativity were quantized, we would expect general relativistic transformations to be restricted to computable functions. On the other hand, if we imagine general relativity as continuous (analogue) we can understand that it is a bit vague, ie weak, as it is.

We need clear foundations for the fixed ponts in our opinions or they will drift under authoritarian and economic pressure.

Symmetry = invariance. In a dynamic Universe, fixed points serve as boundaries, like my skin.

Continuum is a mathematical representation of the via negativa, a journey in which nothing happens, ie we change the coordinates but the distance remains the same. In a sense the coordinates do not exist but they are a language we use to talk about process. So we can create a phase space for a computer and watch the computer moving around the space as it executes its process, 'colliding' with other computers and users if our state space is a network.

The fundamental invariant in quantum mechanics is E = hf.

We say that general relativity sees only energy. What if we say that it sees only action and the advent of energy (action per second) introduces time as the fundamental metric. In GR, time is just one dimension. In quantum mechanics it is a countable infinity of different frequencies each represented by a vector in hilbert space. 1D hilbert space related to gravitation.

[page 19]

Fixed points are capital, like a house, factory, machine.

Pais page 275: '. . . in 1930 [Einstein] expressed the opinion that the idea of general relativity "is a purely formal point of view and not a definite hypothesis about nature. . . . Non [generally] relativistic theory contains not only statements about things but [also] statements which refer to things and the coordinate systems which are needed for their description; also from a logical point of view such a theory is less satisfactory that a relativistic one, the content of which is independent of the choice of coordinates".' Weinberg Gravitation page 6: 'The usual way to "prove" that a system of mathematical postulates is self consistent is to construct a model that satisfies the postulates out of some other system whose consistency is (for the moment) unquestioned. For both Euclidean and non-Euclidean geometry, the "model" is provided by the system of real numbers. Weinberg

The good news is not the Church. The good news is the enormous benefit to us that has occurred since the evidence based study of human nature and the rest of the world began in [ancient times]. On the whole the Church has fought tooth and nail against human rights, equality and even the value of evidence throughout this period. Like the Abbott Catholic government, secrecy and violence are the watchwords. It is now a criminal offence to reveal the abuse and torture of refugees in Australia. On the assumption that used paths lead somewhere and are not simply dead ends, it is encouraging to see that there are no problems with the next step forward. I can now see my way more clearly to the transfinite oscillator than when I invented it in 1992, 23 years ago. The thing has been cooking in my mind ever since and it may yet turn out to be a useful concept, particularly when coupled to a computational view of quantum mechanics.

From semi-competent tradie to nouveau micro guru.

The book is rather nerdy corresponding somewhat to discussing ourselves and our children in terms of DNA, but insofar as the genotype controls the phenotype, this stuff has to be spoken, The book is a tour of abstraction from the days of Parmenides to the discoveries of Cantor, Gödel, Turing, Shannon and thousands of other who have constructed the theoretical backbone of the civilization we enjoy. With this knowledge in hand, we can make explicit the path that has led us to human equality, universal rights, universal education, universal health care and the other theoretical attributes of ideal society, all summed up in the concept of non-

violence. So what I have here is a call to the software engineers of the world to apply our discoveries to the realities of computation and communication to embody these social ideas. The theory here I call theology. The practice is religion. The foundation of the theory is that the Universe is divine and all our experiences are experiences of God.

The opposition is strong. There are many who want to break human symmetry for their own benefit. Theory suggests, however, that the most stable arrangement of any system of peer operators gives them all equal power.

We need a trustworthy global model of the human condition. This domain of modelling is called theology. There are many theologies but I was brought up on Catholic theology. This theology has the advantage that it is deeply studied and clearly defined by the Bibe, creeds and Papal directives.

The Church is evil. Bonum ex integro, malum ex quacumque causa[Good requires perfection, evil arises from any defect]. The Church is in error when it consign women to an underclass. QED.

Space is dynamic, and what is dynamic is the metric, which enables it to describe the expansion of the Universe and the contraction of black holes.

Maybe the reason why the pundits want a spin-2 graviton is that they want to digest the whole of 4-space in one mouthful

[page 22]

instead of slicing it up layer by layer, in which case the graviton might be something massless and spin 0, moving in one (closed, circular) dimension.

The usual wake-up despair. What use is the beautifully named 'transfinite oscillator? How does it actually work? Does it help us understand the working of the world? How does it fit into cybernetics? Applying the principle of requisite variety, we see that layer n cannot control layer n+1. but layer n+1 can control layer n since knowledge is possible. The original concept that it is an interplay of knowledge and creation seems good, and maybe this is all that needs to be said at the cybernetic level.

Create and criticize.

The future is uncertain, the path is uncertain.

The frequency of the transfinite oscillator varies at different levels. Since every act at a higher level is in the end an act of the hardware and this same act is given different meanings by different layers. A photon that enters the eye of a beholder behaves like any other photon, but is given meaning by the structure of the system that receives it. I seex where x is the classification given to this and other photons by the visual system.

As in uncertain battle, we push ahead determined to overcome

[page 23]

every obstacle in the way or die trying, hoping that others will succeed where we fail.

Back in the groove and writing ahead.

Original sin is the fundamental lie on which the Church is built. Gravitation is recursive, a self fulfilling prophecy. Original sin is too, as are most ideas that are successfully put into practice. Such ideas gain momentum and they are very hard to deflect even when the founding prophecy is debunked.

Returning to the scene of Cannery Row—the weedy lots and junk heaps and flophouses of Monterey, John Steinbeck once more brings to life the denizens of a netherworld of laughter and tears—from Fauna, new headmistress of the local brothel, to Hazel, a bum whose mother must have wanted a daughter.'

Weinberg, Steven, Gravitation and Cosmology: Principles and Applications of the General Theory of Relativity, Wiley 1972 Amazon customer review: 'The Best Exposition on General Relativity: 'Weinberg is a master. His style is efficent. His words not wasted. His insights are inspiring. Behind each statement dwells a reservoir of thought. His selection and organization of the material seems non-improvable. Completion of the book yields general relativity in a comprehensive manner. In addition to his methods, I am wholeheartedly biased towards his approach of basing general relativity on empiricism rather than geometry. Reading this book is almost synonomous with sitting at the feet of a master. The methods utilized are standard tensor analysis, which yields the best results and understanding of the physics in a first exposure. MTW, in contrast, uses different mathematical approaches and moreover does so in an inconsistent manner. Weinberg is the BEST book, existing today, on general relativity period.' A Customer

Cantor's theorem - Wikipedia, Cantor's theorem - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, 'In elementary set theory, Cantor's theorem states that, for any set A, the set of all subsets of A (the power set of A) has a strictly greater cardinality than A itself. For finite sets, Cantor's theorem can be seen to be true by a much simpler proof than that given below, since in addition to subsets of A with just one member, there are others as well, and since n < 2n for all natural numbers n. But the theorem is true of infinite sets as well. In particular, the power set of a countably infinite set is uncountably infinite. I show that even imperfect copying essential in such situations restricts possible unperturbed outcomes to an orthogonal subset of all possible states of the system, thus breaking the unitary symmetry of its Hilbert space implied by the quantum superposition principle. Preferred outcome states emerge as a result. They provide framework for the ``wavepacket collapse'', designating terminal points of quantum jumps, and defining the measured observable by specifying its eigenstates. In quantum Darwinism, they are the progenitors of multiple copies spread throughout the environment -- the fittest quantum states that not only survive decoherence, but subvert it into carrying information about them -- into becoming a witness.' back
