Quantum Mechanics and Path Integrals: Feynman.

Feynman page 246:

When mathematics brings weird results, people hang with it because a) thee is nothing else to do unless you are lucky enough to be the genius to hit on the next step; and b) experience has sometimes shown that following the mathematics to the last ditch can yield spectacular results.

'There is no physical effect following from constant energy'

What quantum electrodynamics needs is rationale for high frequency cutoffs, which obviously will have something to do with stable information structure.

One must remain true to physical intuition and try to equate the quality of the insight to the quality of the system

under study. it thus seems that there is no shrinking from relativistic quantum mechanics as the basis of fact for what we are up to and the current unholy mess in particle physics as an invitation to come up with something better.

Feynman page 260: 'No modification of quantum electrodynamics at high frequencies is known which simultaneously makes all results finite, maintains relativistic invariance and keeps the sum of probabilities over all alternatives equal to unity.'

page 264: Path integrals have to do with action, expressed by the Lagrangian etc, which we want to equate with communication. It would therefore seem logical to study this approach in greater detail and try to 'quantise' the process in terms of entropy and action.'

Claudio Rebbi: Solitons. Rebbi.

Rebbi page 76: Originally, the term soliton used for hydrodynamic waves that propagated without dispersion. The effects of dispersion exactly cancelled by a compensating phenomenon. [Only possible with] nonlinear equations of motion.

[Particle physics uses the term for waves prevented from dispersing by a topological constraint.

Soliton trapped topologically between vacuum states,

Mathematicians have been completely taken in by the notion of field. There is no physical reason why things must be continuous and infinite. This is just an assumption that has long been made.

[page 125]

The idea is to cut loose from the classical ideas of continuously varying field altogether and take the whole thing from the top as a discontinuous information processing business which has certain points of contact with physics.

The laws of physics are in effect efforts to unravel the programming of the Universe, but they make a lot of assumptions that have been governed by the mathematics of continuous states. ...

Wave function defines the entropy of particle space, through the Cn [coefficients] applied to the basis vectors. Collapse of the wave function, equivalent to observation, would yield information equal to the entropy of the wave function.

Nations' ability and apparent willingness to completely annihilate one another in modern war means a great leap forward in the conscious integration of large bodies of people.
