Now we come to the weak interaction, the most detailed and devilish of them all.

My social media approach: Salvation comes from acknowledging universal indigeneity, the physical word is my bible, speaking reality to me.

Siri Hustvedt: Guardian Trump Birthday wish 2026_06_14:

“White American do not believe in death, James Baldwin wrote. He understood the belligerent blindness to history, the screeching howls of innocence, the mad belief in “racial” hierarchy as projections of self hatred onto others. Ignoring the universal reality of death turns human beings into amoral monsters.”

What I am trying to do is map my experience of music onto

[page 160]

my experience of quantum mechanics.

Quantum theory is a natural gauge theory because it is abstract and prior to Minkowski space where we do all our observations and try to understand the underlying Hilbert space processes, the playground of quantum mechanics, beginning with the 1D initial singularity mapping onto itself.

Electroweak symmetry Yang-Mills with SU(2) × U(1) gauge group. Weak isospin fields W1, W2,W3, and weak hypercharge B. Fields initially massless gaining mass by spontaneous symmetry breaking and Higgs mechanism “an elaborate quantum field theoretic phenomenon”, ie a violation of the heuristic of simplicity and the prohibition of infinity. W particles are massive to [explain] short range. Electroweak interaction - Wikipedia

Higgs and the EM field are independent: Q = T3 + ½YW

LEW + . . .+ is a sum of Lagrangian densities in Minkowski space. We don’t like this at all and need to go back to the data and the relevant Hilbert space. Will it ever work out? How does all this avoid the antiparticle catastrophe? It would be nice to boil it all down to something comprehensible.

Yang-Mills based on conservation of isospin which distinguishes neutron from proton. The place to start all this is to use the CPT theorem to save us from antiparticle annihilation because that is what all this weak field and neutrinos is about.

[page 161]

The idea is that all this mess comes from trying to work out quantum mechanics in Minkowski space. What we want to begin with is entropy and discrete logic based on the quantum. The radical disaster lies in the belief that Minkowski space is continuous and calculus is meaningful. The first step to work on is using generic fermions and bosons to create Minkowski space and inertial symmetry which is reflected in the Minkowski metric where the photon is a pure Hilbert carryover into Minkowski space and massive fermions are created by the confinement of energy, eg electrons and neutrinos (3 generations) and quarks and gluons (also confined - confinement ≡ consistency + independence). How does antimatter get in here [a momentary failure of consistency, antimatter is inconsistent with matter, corrected by the weak force??]?

All this hopeful symmetry is to be a result of the new degree of freedom that opens up when we release quantum mechanics from [its] imprisonment in the mass shell by [being written] in Minkowski space. Our first fundamental task is to use generic fermions and bosons to create Minkowski space using the failure of parity to save this transition from annihilation by exploiting the fact that neutrinos are written in a 2D Dirac space. Once again, sleep on it and write the next step on

Monday 15 June 2026
00:24. The story I need to write now is the transition from Hilbert space to the mass shell which is closely coupled to the [Minkowski] metric which is the fundamental symmetry of the [observable] universe. E = mc2, c is a quantum constant, partner to the quantum of action.

[page 162]

When did Einstein derive E = mc2? See Kevin Brown, Reflections on relativity. Kevin Brown (2018): Reflections on Relativity

Going deeper in the direction pioneered by my book showing that the universe is divine by overcoming the gnostic gap through establishing that abstract Hilbert space and quantum mechanics is the intelligent spiritual foundation of the world; establishing the ancient Aristotelian idea that the spiritual soul is the intelligent root of the world. Maybe a fantasy, but at least as powerful as the egregious Christian dream and rooted in modern physics [whose] deepest mystery in anti-matter and the lightest fermion, the neutrino which comes in only one variety, the anti-neutrinos, which seem to be the salvation of the world from the antimatter catastrophe is their role as a peculiar outcome of β decay, the root mystery of any ‘standard model’. Today’s essay in L4L – the route from quantum mechanics to special relativity. Title: L4L_e02_gnostic_gap?

The basic idea of science is to convert human dynamic experience into some form of static text, writing, sculpture or other artefacts of technology, more generally art and technology. At the borderline between dynamic experience and static art we find music which found, at some time in its history, means to record sounds into some form of writing which, like other forms of transcription depend on the creation of sequences of written symbols to reproduce sequences of sounds, as this text reproduces the sounds I would make if I was to read it aloud. [Here we begin to get a glimpse of the role of the static pre-spacetime of vectors Hilbert space, whose sequences describe dynamic events in Minkowski spacetime, capturing thought]. By the

[page 163]

gnostic gap I understand the space and the bridge between dynamism and stasis. Alternative titles art-science, hilbert-minkowski [tick].

Edward Moore. IEP Gnosticism St Elias School of Catholic Theology. Edward Moore (Internet Encyclopdia of Philosophy): Gnosticism

Antimatter is in effect the epitome of evil destroying the structure it mirrors. From this point of view, the weak force the force of justice and virtue controlling the destructive force of antimatter by maintaining the PCT theorem by breaking parity in order to break charge, eliminating e+ in the majority of cases through the exclusive existence of anti-neutrinos in particle decay, a possibility suggested by Chen Ning Yang and Tsung-Dao Lee. Chen Ning Yang & Tsung-Dao Lee: The Nobel Prize in Physics, 1957

Imperialism is the military interpretation of anti-humanity, genocide, murder, rape, domestic and public violence, predation. Justice is the anti-dote to anti- humanity and at the foundational level we may attribute this to the gravitational attribution of energy equally to fermions and bosons, to be explained in l4l_e03_justice. The effect of annihilation by antiparticles is to reverse this quantum mechanical construction of justice and we attribute the salvific power of beta decay to its ability to stick the negative antiness onto antineutrinos which carry it away almost masslessly by fermions that communicate at a very low rate. Is this hypothesis worth something? Why else would we have pseudo massless fermions?

High energy physics in Minkowski space is a delusion. The only thing we have in abstract Hilbert space is events and there is no actual

[page 164]

measure of distance or time relative to events in Hilbert space itself but the lifetime of particles in Minkowski space is measured by the time between when they appear and disappear due to the random events in Hilbert space and we find ourselves making calculations about mass time and distance by these meaningless intervals which is why we attribute mass to the Higgs because it only lasts for a short time and we compute the mass from the distance over which it can interact at the speed of light which is a feature of Minkowski space [ie c = 300 000 km per sec], [lifetime of Higgs is 1.6 E-22 sec, so it can travel about 5 E-11 mm in its lifetime. Diameter of proton about 2 E -12 mm].

I.e. the only [?] data we have about elementary particles are the random times between events, like radioactive decays, that we measure in Minkowski space and we then expand these intervals using the mass shell to compute the properties we attribute to the different species of particle we observe. [I’m dreaming. This is not all, we have all sorts of pictures of intersections in bubble chambers etc etc]. One way to get this in perspective is to think about photon lifetimes which give us a definite measure of distance in Minkowski space [even though we cannot observe the photon itself, only its source and destination].

Every primordial event is exactly the same size, the quantum of action. If it is very fast in Minkowski space we attribute high energy, momentum and mass to it since E = ℏ/duration of event [inverse frequency].

Between them David Hilbert and Thomas Aquinas defined the size of an eternal omnipotent universe. Formalism (philosophy of mathematics) - Wikipedia, Aquinas, Summa I, 25, 3; Is god omnipotent?

L4L_e02_hilbert_minkowski is an essay on the difference between the quantum metric and the Minkowski metric, since at the foundation science is all about measurement.

Power corrupts; nature creates. Cognitive cosmogenesis vs imperialist mass murder and destruction driven by theocracy and autocracy. What can I say about it? What can I do about it? Will the power to do good corrupt me? What have I got to offer? Can I be trusted to do good? What is good? Compassion, cooperation, intelligence, looking for the answer in the nature of the [divine] world, upset because political power ignores nature in pursuit of profit and expedience. Nicholls (2025): Cognitive Cosmogenesis: A systematic unification of physics and theology

Cognitive Cosmogenesis is an expression of my dream that was killed in the Dominican Order by the imperialism implicit in the political error implicit in poverty, chastity and obedience, the demand to submit oneself to the power of the false god of theocracy, the crime implicit in Hitler, Stalin, Trump snd Lucifer/Satan. Follow me and do as I say because that is what I want, and you all have to pay. So where am I going? To write another book? To map a path to salvation by studying the weak force that conquers antimatter? The salvation I see in quantocracy and justice? The rule of unbounded consistent intelligence, Hilbert’s formalism and Aquinas’s omnipotence. Fundamentally the somewhat contradictory fight against war by the implementation of freedom and justice, the maximization of entropy. Nature creates entropy; corruption kills it.

[page 166]

So arise and shine. Shower, eat and write, look after myself first in order to better look after all around me and feel good. Does Trump feel good when he bombs people? Did Hitler? Did Churchill? As Brother Bonaventure [later revealed as leading child abuser] taught us, we must have an ideal but what? As Hilbert tells us, ideals like infinity can be dangerous and there, for me, lies the ideal in quantum field theory, a contradiction in terms, discrete continuity, impossible in Minkowski space but is it made possible by my dream of logical continuity? The dream embraced in lust-4-life is a search for a simple picture of nature at work as embodied in evolution, a process of ceaseless revision as species and environments come and go. All this under pressure of inevitable death, the accumulation of error diluting my power, but with the idea of real global salvation still in my sights driven by nature based consistency and cooperation based on a shared picture of creation like that embedded in my genome and shared by my 50 trillion cells as long as they can collectively keep me going, the pleasure of creative life, dynamism captured in words.

Now back to l4l_02_hilbert_minkowski.

Hilbert Minkowski seems quite simple. Pauli exclusion principle + velocity of light, which is all we need to know but we need to explain it more deeply and here I am at something of a loss and must study harder, in particular how do we measure the

transition to Minkowski metric in terms of entropy via elementary particles. We need something new here, more von Neuman and Linear Algebra Done Right. How does sound (waves) make space? Via fermions and bosons [and hermitian operators]. Sheldon Axler (2026_05_09): Linear Algebra Done Right (4th Edition)

We are all like particles, like to play together like an orchestra, an example of symmetry with respect to complexity. Am I a boson or a fermion? We make a basic sound, a white noise, and then filter it to modulate certain frequencies by picking certain frequencies that resonate in a certain [space-time] volumes. Requiem (Verdi) - Wikipedia

The big and interesting deal is the weak force and modulating out the anti-particles, and we need to understand the interplay between Hilbert and Minkowski like vocal cords, mouth and tongue.

What does Verdi’s Requiem mean to me? We have a living example of [imagined and documented] wave functions becoming real sound via two choirs, four soloists and an orchestra, the sound and modulation being created in Minkowski space by enormous numbers of fundamental particles assembled into 20 tonnes of people and instruments.

One needs to become an artist to create Verdilike stuff to suit universal indigenes without all the eternal life, sin and pain.

[page 168]

Streater and Wightman page 9: “among the most important symmetries of relativistic quantum theory are those that arise from the Lorentz transformations themselves” [which are made necessary because the symmetry of inertial space results from the fact that there is no space and time in the underlying quantum mechanics, reflected in Maxwell’s equations that apply at every point in Minkowsky space].

Paul Kelly Stories of Me ABC Ian Darling (2012): Paul Kelly; Stories of Me

I need to make the mathematics concrete for myself. It is basically numbers, and they tell us nothing, they have to be hung on a frame like a set of figures in a business, and the world is a big business, starting with Hilbert, Plato and von Neumann and the engineers, making drawings come true with heavy machinery and lots of entropy, making the images real.

What I want to do is climb the next hill. So now it is the weak force and overcoming the antimatter problem. You can’t make it work. Follow the paths of Lee and Yang. [Kelly] would take days to write a song. Trying to get a bit of passion into my religiosity and have learnt that the physical world speaks to me as my god and my bible, and the best thing I have learnt is uncertainty.

[page 169]

Words were felt, very sensual. I just want the next one.

The basic idea is that power, that is energy or money, should be constrained and we may seek the stability of both the universe and society in the conservation of energy which is managed from the zero energy starting point of the Aquinas–Einstein symmetry from which we derive energy and entropy from the bifurcation and the production of real particles depending upon the production of real potential and kinetic energy. The idea is here, and maybe the production and annihilation of anti-particl4s is a very slow and low energy process, 10-14 compared to EM 10-2, strong 1 and gravitation 10-38, ie there is no antiparticle problem in that it is 1012 times less than particles.

Saul Voltaire’s Bastards Chapter 14 pp 318 - 336, Napoleon page 340, what I need is an idea of sufficient power to get me in charge! Work on it; Hegel: World Historical figure. Jesus did it in a few years. John Ralston Saul (1992): Voltaire's Bastards: The Dictatorship of Reason in the West

The next book better be good but it has to be rooted in Cognitive Cosmogenesis, the real god, creation, and the fact that the world is inherently good which I currently think is a product of hermitian operators cutting the complex plane down to a real line, the essence of l4l_e02_hilbert_minkowski built on the 2D Hilbert space

| minkowski ⟩ = α| fermion ⟩ + β| boson

Here it is. Rig it out.

Thomas Carlyle: On heroes, hero worship and the Heroic in History. The real hero is the world. We just have to expose it. On Heroes, Hero-Worship, & the Heroic in History - Wikipedia

At present I think the structure of the world is poorly represented by pre-theological physics and it becomes the duty of L4L to fix this. Write on.

[page 170]

The average scholar (as opposed to scientist) is like AI. They read vast amounts of literature of dubious veracity, like Aquinas, Augustine and the Bible, and produce new versions of the old story. Evolution, on the other hand, has a scientific element in the ability to survive and reproduce and we want to see that quantum theory + gravitational energy has got some of that quality.

Back to Behiel. Dirac equation. Richard Behiel (2023_11_21): Deriving the Dirac Equation

Equations only make sense if the numbers are connected to the right real variables. In the case of the Dirac equation this correlation is to the mass shell that is a Minkowski thing, not a quantum thing. Three principles (Behiel): 1. Mass shell; 2. Quantum energy and momentum operators, ie pμ = iμ ie E = i∂/∂t, p = −iℏ [∂/∂x, ∂/∂y, ∂/∂z]; 3. Linear in space and time [normal in Hilbert space, an artificial constraint in Minkowski]. How do we get back to quantum? Work on l4l_e02_hilbert_minkowski.

Our quantum equation is (again) |minkowski⟩ = α|fermion⟩ + β|boson⟩. How do we put numbers into this? 1. Fermion = Euclidean space; boson = null geodesic. Result is mass shell p.p = (mc)2 → (E/c)2 − |p|2, that is we introduce energy and momentum to get space and time and the intermediaries are fermions and bosons, to be justified in the essay l4l_e02_. The key is that quantum mechanics is linear, so Dirac linearized the Schrödinger and Klein-Gordon equations [Behiel op cit. where his explanation of linearization is slightly dodgy, saying that relativity demands that space and time must be the same order, so lets make space linear because time is linear in in Schrödinger, but in Minkowski space time is also quadratic; the real reason for the linearity is that Minkowski space is a product of linear quantum mechanics and the more interesting point is to explain how the mass shell comes to be quadratic, which is my real problem] .

Going through a depressed patch, biting off more than I can chew (even with new teeth!) Looking for an easy path from QM to Minkowski space through generic fermions (48) and bosons (13) but the spark will come back soon as

it usually does. The only way to work is to paint myself into a corner and get desperate hoping that my solution is not false or damaging. One adantage of being without a collaborator is that I write down all the things I would normally discuss with friends. Elementary particle - Wikipedia

We live and observe, like an oyster, in the mass shell which is defined by special relativity, space and time made real by momentum and energy [is this the clue, Hilbert abstractions being made real by energy = matter as in hylomorphism? Aristotle strikes again, or common sense. I am agent who acts on my abstract ideas to do concrete things, the key to life, genes and reproduction].

Hung up on the nature of a fermion as it is derived from the Dirac equation. Does this really explain it or is it built into the mass shell. Still not understanding how the mass shell drives from Hilbert space, convinced that the intermediary must be a particle. Ease off and it will come, my pons asinorum the bridge over the gnostic gap from animal to angel. This bridge is the foundation of my divine universe. We have to funnel all human experience between conception and inevitable death into this project.

Dee Broglie waves are everything, beginning with random periods, from beginning to end. I am an orchestra of E^14 cells, E^20 atoms, etc etc. So the big q is how do we turn music into a mass shell, how do we go from 3D space-time to 3D momentum-energy - keep asking these question until I trip over the answer - the inverse of Dirac’s equation. Why do we need the gamma matrices - to linearize something that is already linear. Ie music, via inverse gamma matrices → mass shell. We see mass shell as higher entropy than QM, ie we need a bifurcation. I think no one has ever had a bigger idea than mine, so cheer up.

Saturday 20 June 2026

Having written this book I now become a character in the social drama enveloping the world at the moment and will gently seek to expand the role of my character to promote sales of my book, a bit of wealth in my old age and the welfare of people whose attention has been directed away from reality by religious creeds established in the interests of maintaining the power of the ancient priestly / astrological community who live as servants of the imperial theocratic autocratic forces that feed of human credulity, enforcing their beliefs by military murder and genocide. Physicists as well as theologians support the oppression of otherwise free and autonomous people because they earn their living by maintaining the power of the ruling force, repressing the innate human desire for freedom and agency. An ugly story, the work of predatory satanic forces which are an unfortunate consequence of evolution by natural selection operating in the absence of universal justice. From a physical point of view we may see (L4L_e03_justice) the cosmic foundation of justice in the apportionment of energy to the stable forms that inhabit elementary particles, the idea in the domain name creationsaves.

Ultimately the article l4l_02_hilbert_minkowski trashes QFT by showing that the real action is in Hilbert space and the mass shell is a by-product of QM, but we are close (with all particles being either bosons or fermions, the generators of the Minkowski metric) but (for some reason not yet patent) we are not there yet, but at least we have a good problem

[page 174]

A quantum degree of freedom, like charge, colour etc is simply a vector in Hilbert space, like a phoneme in speech. Nambu’s proposal of colour as a degree of freedom laid the conceptual framework for the development if QCD. Yoichiro Nambu (2008_12_08): Spontaneous symmetry breaking in particle physics: A case of cross fertilization

String theory: Nambu-Goto action, which describes the dynamics of a relativistic string as the area of the world line swept out in time, i. e. a string is simply an object in Minkowski space, not a quantum object.

Now I’ll be an Einstein: they tell us that the wave function tells us everything we know about a system, but does it really tell us what is happening? It tells us the probability of a certain event like the electron being at x but it does not tell us what an electron is. It does not code charge, mass, size etc. So what is the hilbert space vector corresponding to an electron and how does it encode the fact that the electron is a fermion, and how does this fact account for Fermi-Dirac statistics? I want to know on the way to discovering how fermions make their contribution to the Minowski metric.

We are looking for the tune that corresponds to an electron, ie a vector [once we know this sort of thing we will be on our way to understanding how quantum mechanics explains the events in Hilbert space; quantum mechanics feels like theology to me, a whole lot of talk that does not explain anything, possibly because it is too simple].

the Church separated me from my family and put me on a lonely road of service to a non-existent god which I soon sensed and expressed and was thrown off my road somewhat damaged. 60 years

[page 175]

later I have published the answer to my dream and am becoming indigenous to my billion year old creator as I struggle to understand its creative power, the Lust-4-Life which will be the sexy picture of my divinity, to be completed by a mathematically and evidentially perfecty theory of everything, a scientific theology.

Brown (2018), Kevin, Reflections on Relativity, 2018 ' . . . general relativity teaches us that the principles of special relativity are applicable only over infinitesimal regions in the presence of gravitation, so in a sense the general theory restricts rather than generalizes the special theory. However, we can also regard special relativity as a theory of flat four-dimensional spacetime, characterized by the Minkowski metric (in suitable coordinates), and the general theory generalizes this by allowing the spacetime manifold to be curved, as represented by a wider class of metric tensors. It is remarkable that this generalization, which is so simple and natural from the geometrical standpoint, leads almost uniquely to a viable theory of gravitation.' (page 700)

The central argument is that by embracing this reality and abandoning notions of supernatural deities, humanity can resolve its problems. The universe, it is argued, is self-creating, and a proper understanding of physics leads to a plausible scientific theology. The natural intelligence inherent in the universe, from cellular organization to ecosystems, far surpasses any artificial intelligence. Comprehending this natural order, the author suggests, would make achieving world peace relatively straightforward. The book contends that modern theologians should recognize the physical world, rather than ancient texts, as the foundation for credible theology. It also addresses the historical entanglement of religion and politics, asserting that the model of creation presented herein fundamentally rejects the imperialistic ambitions that have fueled genocidal holy wars.'

Agence France-Presse, US military plans permanent war-ready weapons stockpile in Australia, ' The US military is planning a permanent war-ready weapons stockpile for its Marine Corps on Australia’s southeast coast beyond the range of most Chinese missiles, according to tender documents and officials. The development of the stockpile, a first for the Marine Corps in Australia, came as the US was keen to leverage the continent’s strategic location in the South Pacific to counter China’s rapid military build-up, analysts said.
The US Marine Corps began global pre-positioning of military supplies during the Cold War – using floating stores on ships and caves in Norway where weapons, ammunition and vehicles to sustain thousands of troops are kept.
The first land stockpile in the Asia-Pacific is expected to open this year in the Philippines, close to potential flashpoints in the South China Sea. Documents published by the US Navy this month show advanced planning for an even larger Australian stockpile, with US$30 million allocated to build warehouses and offices in southeastern Victoria state for “critical forward provisioning”.

Alex Lo (2026_06_14), War crimes are self-defence in the US and Israel, ' Now we know what the Americans mean by “self-defence”. Actually we have always known that. Except with the war on Iran, they don’t bother with making plausible propaganda any more and just dare you to challenge their ridiculous claims.
In this, they have learned well from their Israeli partner-in-crime, according to whom every person killed, however young, is by definition a terrorist. Every facility bombed, even if it’s a hospital or school, is either a terrorist cell or has one hiding in or under it. And every attack is retaliation and/or self-defence.
Of course, such propaganda would be laughable within normal human communication, among people with common sense. But that’s not how it is when you have demonised peoples like the Iranians and the Palestinians for so long to a thoroughly propagandised domestic audience.
So, for example, Iran last week downed a US Army Apache helicopter over Gulf waters. Since it is still at war with the US, that seems fair game. What did the US military do?
According to a Pentagon press statement: “US Central Command (CENTCOM) forces began launching self-defence strikes against Iran at 5 pm ET today at the Commander in Chief’s direction, in response to yesterday’s downing of a US Army Apache helicopter. The mission is a proportional response to unjustified Iranian aggression.”
Though halfway across the globe and right at Iran’s doorstep, America still claimed “self-defence” by targeting, among others, two reservoirs supplying water to about 20,000 residents in the Bemani and Kouhestak areas of the southern port town of Sirik.
For lack of a better word, it’s a war crime. That’s according to The New York Times and The Guardian, not just me. [. . .]
Measuring the Higgs boson lifetime poses a big experimental challenge, though. The lifetime is almost a billion times too short for the Higgs boson to fly a measurable distance in the detector before decaying into other particles. On the other hand, the lifetime is also too long to be measured through the range of possible variations of its nominal mass (125 GeV/c^2), allowed by Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle. Because of this quantum effect, the mass of an unstable particle can vary around its nominal value in a range (called the width) that is inversely proportional to its lifetime. The predicted width of the Higgs boson mass range (about 0.0041 GeV/c2) is about 200 times too small to be resolved by the detector, unfortunately.' back

In spite of the diverse nature of the various Gnostic sects and teachers, certain fundamental elements serve to bind these groups together under the loose heading of “Gnosticism” or “Gnosis.” Chief among these elements is a certain manner of “anti-cosmic world rejection” that has often been mistaken for mere dualism. A major figure of formalism was David Hilbert, whose program was intended to be a complete and consistent axiomatization of all of mathematics.[9] Hilbert aimed to show the consistency of mathematical systems from the assumption that the "finitary arithmetic" (a subsystem of the usual arithmetic of the positive integers, chosen to be philosophically uncontroversial) was consistent (i.e. no contradictions can be derived from the system). back

Haixu Wu et al, (2026_06_18, Lamprey 3D single-cell transcriptomics reveals ancestral and specialized features of the vertebrate brain, ' Editor’s summary The jawless vertebrate lamprey has a relatively simple brain, and understanding how it works could unveil valuable insights into brain evolution in vertebrates. Wu et al. combined single-nucleus RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomics to produce a three-dimensional atlas of the adult lamprey’s brain. The authors identified 209 molecular and spatially distinct cell clusters and compared single-cell data for eight species and spatial transcriptomics for five species. They found regional conservation among species and lineage-specific divergence at the cellular level. Overall, the dataset revealed principles of brain evolution and diversification in vertebrates.' —Mattia Maroso back

On Heroes, Hero-Worship, & the Heroic in History - Wikipedia, On Heroes, Hero-Worship, & the Heroic in History - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, ' On Heroes, Hero-Worship, & the Heroic in History is a book by the Scottish essayist, historian and philosopher Thomas Carlyle, published by James Fraser, London, in 1841. It is a collection of six lectures given in May 1840 about prominent historical figures. It lays out Carlyle's belief in the importance of heroic leadership.
Carlyle was one of the few philosophers who lived through the British Industrial Revolution but maintained a non-materialistic view of historical development. The book included lectures discussing people ranging from the field of religion through to literature and politics. The figures chosen for each lecture were presented by Carlyle as archetypal examples of individuals who, in their respective fields of endeavour, had dramatically impacted history in some way. The Islamic prophet Muhammad found a place in the book in the lecture titled "The Hero as Prophet". In his work, Carlyle outlined Muhammad as a Hegelian agent of reform, insisting on his sincerity and commenting "how one man single-handedly, could weld warring tribes and wandering Bedouins into a most powerful and civilized nation in less than two decades". His interpretation has been widely cited by Muslim scholars to show Muhammad without orientalist bias. back

Requiem (Verdi) - Wikipedia, Requiem (Verdi) - Wikipedia, the free ncyclopedia, ' The Messa da Requiem is a musical setting of the Catholic funeral mass (Requiem) for four soloists, double choir and orchestra by Giuseppe Verdi. It was composed in memory of Alessandro Manzoni, whom Verdi admired, and is therefore also referred to as the Manzoni Requiem. The first performance, at the San Marco church in Milan on 22 May 1874, conducted by the composer, marked the first anniversary of Manzoni's death. It was followed three days later by the same performers at La Scala. Verdi conducted his work at major venues in Europe.
Verdi composed the music for the last part of the text, Libera me, first, as his contribution to the Messa per Rossini, which he had begun after Gioachino Rossini had died.
Considered too operatic to be performed in a liturgical setting, the Requiem is usually given in concert form; a performance lasts around 90 minutes. Musicologist David Rosen calls it "probably the most frequently performed major choral work composed after Mozart's Requiem".

Shadi Rouhshahbaz (2026_06_17), The Iran peace deal must demand the release of Narges Mohammadi and other prisoners of conscience, ' Few Iranian women are as celebrated for defending freedom in Iran as Narges Mohammadi. She is the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, the Andrei Sakharov Prize, the Olof Palme Prize, and the PEN and UNESCO press freedom awards, among others.
Yet, like thousands of other political prisoners in Iran, her own freedom still matters little to the powerful forces around her.
As US President Donald Trump’s administration negotiates a deal with the Iranian regime to end their nearly four-month war, Mohammadi’s fate has not received even a mention. There has been no commitment from Iran to release political prisoners as part of the deal. Nor does it appear the Trump administration has even made this request at any stage of the negotiation.
Just over a month ago, Mohammadi was fighting for her life. The 54-year-old activist had two suspected heart attacks in prison in northern Iran. After weeks of battling for access to medical care, she was granted a temporary suspension of her sentence on heavy bail and transferred to a hospital in Tehran.
In mid-May, she was moved from intensive care back to her home in Tehran under medical care and heavy security.

Sheldon Axler (2026_05_09), Linear Algebra Done Right (4th Edition), ' You are probably about to begin your second exposure to linear algebra. Unlike your first brush with the subject, which probably emphasized Euclidean spaces and matrices, this encounter will focus on abstract vector spaces and linear maps. These terms will be defined later, so don’t worry if you do not know what they mean. This book starts from the beginning of the subject, assuming no knowledge of linear algebra. The key point is that you are about to immerse yourself in serious mathematics, with an emphasis on attaining a deep understanding of the definitions, theorems, and proofs. back

Xinlu Liang (2026_06_14), Dear You – the Chinese migration film igniting a propaganda debate in Southeast Asia, ' In less than two months, the indie film Dear You has become an unlikely mass hit.
Shot in the Teochew language from the Chaoshan region of southern China’s Guangdong province, the movie follows a man uncovering his family’s past by tracing remittance letters sent home from Thailand.
As he pieces together his grandfather’s life story, the movie also explores Chinese migration to the region and the diaspora’s struggle to preserve its heritage.
In one scene, an elderly schoolmaster risks arrest in 1950s Bangkok to secretly teach diaspora children their ancestral Chinese tongue.
The movie has pulled in huge audiences and over 1.6 billion yuan (US$236 million) in China since its release on April 30.v But it has also sparked a debate across Southeast Asia about China’s soft power and political influence with Chinese communities in other countries.
The response has varied throughout the region – from Chinese-majority Singapore, to Chinese-minority Malaysia to Thailand and the Philippines, where Chinese communities are more integrated into wider society.' back

Yoichiro Nambu (2008_12_08), Spontaneous symmetry breaking in particle physics: A case of cross fertilization, ' SSB in a medium then has the following characteristic properties: 1. the ground state has huge degeneracy. a symmetry operation takes one ground state to another. 2. only one of the ground states and a complete set of excited states built on it are realized in a give situation. 3. SSB is in general lost at sufficiently high temperatures.
In relativistic quantum field theory, this phenomenon becomes also possible for the entire space-time, for the “vacuum” is not void, but has many intrinsic degrees of freedom. In this context, it may play an important role in cosmology. as the universe expands and cools down, it may undergo one or more SSB phase transitions from states of higher symmetries to lower ones, which change the governing laws of physics. [. . .]
Finally I will end this lecture with a comment on the mass hierarchy problem. hierarchical structure is an outstanding feature of the universe. The masses of known fundamental fermions also make a hierarchy stretching 11 orders of magnitude. Mass is not quantized in a simple regular manner like charge and spin. Mass is a dynamical quantity since it receives contributions from interactions. But we do not see yet a pattern like those in the hydrogen atom, which led to quantum mechanics, or the regge trajectories, which led to the dual string picture.
the BcS mechanism seems relevant to the problem, as was remarked earlier. it generates a mass gap for fermions, plus the nambu-goldstone and higgs modes as low-lying bosons. The bosons may act in turn as an agent for further SSB, leading to the possibility of hierarchical SSB or “tumbling”.
In fact we already have examples of it
1. the chain atoms – crystal – phonon – superconductivity. the ng mode for crystal formation is the phonon, which induces the cooper pairing of electrons to cause superconductivity>br> 2. the chain QcD – chiral SSB of quarks and baryons – π, σ and other mesons – nuclei formation and nucleon pairing – nuclear collective modes. No further elaboration would be req back
