Begin to revise and expand Development, hoping that the finished result will also serve as the backbone for the book we have waited for these last twenty or thirty years!

So the order of procedure [in the Model section] is Immensity, Cantor's Paradise, function space, hilbert space, turing machine, quantum computation.

Let us envisage god as a steady and intelligent worker whose productivity is high enough to allow a sufficient dose of non-constrained activity to keep the heart glad.

Here 'heart' is a subjective measure of fitness running from > 0(nearly dead) to <1 (nearly perfect).

The level of activity is dictated by the level of desire, and we can contrast the market capitalist society where producers seek higher returns by doing their best to create a strong desire for their products. The most powerful method of doing this is to link our natural desires for rest, comfort, love etc etc to their products. At the foundation of the whole operation is the adage that 'sex sells' and everybody who knows that is true tries to sex up their products as much as possible. There are many ways of being sexy, and what the theology company would like to combine reliability and certainty with excitement and discovery. Not just discovery in the scientific sense, but discovery of all the experiences of life, in a safe environment.

Indoor rock climbing is part of this, and all the other safe thrills that are available to us.

Time is a great organizer, tautologically, since (?) those things that are not organized don't last, or more, don't exist as entities. Our definition of 'entity' admits of degrees of intimacy of the parts. Our basic measure of intimacy is given by time division multiplexing, As Lonergan says, the measure of love is times spent mindful of the beloved. We say we love god wholly (and again tautologically) because every moment of our mindfulness is devoted to some aspect of the divinity. This is because we define the divinity as the totality of the objects of human experience. Here object and subject refer to the same whole of which each of us are parts, and so the source of part of the universal experience. The initial singularity is (in explanatory terms) the source of the whole, confined only logically.

PHYSICS = LOGICAL CONFINEMENT
METAPHYSICS = . . . { {physics} ! } ! . . .

LOGICAL CONTINUITY: evolution is a chain whose alternate links are . . . genotype . . . phenotype . . . . This process is not continuous in the analytical sense, but it is logically [causally?]. And we must suppose that logical continuity takes precedence over analytical continuity. The 'continuous approximation' which is so powerful in physics (expressed through the theory of probability) contains only a fraction of the information available in the actual sequence of events through which we experience life, the most fundamental of which is reproduction.

For the old religion, the suppression of lust (and desire in general) is all, and self denial is at a premium.

Lonergan, Bernard J F, and (edited by Frederick E Crowe and Robert M Doran, Grace and Freedom: Operative Grace in the Thought of St Thomas Aquinas, Jacket: "Grace and Freedom represents Lonergan's entry into subject matter that would occupy him throughout his lifetime. At the same time it is a manifestation of the thinking that has made him one of the world's foremost Thomist scholars. ... Lonergan's thesis is that from the sixteenth century onwards, commentators on Thomas Aquinas lacked historical consciousness, raised questions that Thomas had never considered, and obfuscated the issues. Lonergan's achievement consists in having retrieved the actual postion by adopting a historical approach that has reconstructed [Thomas's] intellectual development on grace. ... What Lonergan also adds is a unique diagnosis of the mistakes made by the modern scholastic authors in their treatment of grace. Throughout this work, Lonergan discovers in Thomas a mind in constant development, displaying radical shifts on fundamental questions. ... '
