I am amazed by the emotional load attached to the hypothesis that the Universe is divine. One should expect this hypothesis to stand by itself, without reference to any concrete history. In a fully complexified world, however, every event has a unique history which gives it a unique identity, as does the genealogy of an individual.

I go forward by exploiting formalism, but then the emotional (concrete) side of me has to catch up, fleshing out the formalism into my life.

To make this clear, two points must be observed. First, that man is not perfectly happy, so long as something remains for him to desire and seek: ... If therefore the human intellect, knowing the essence of some created effect, knows no more of God than "that He is"; the perfection of that intellect does not yet reach simply the First Cause, but there remains in it the natural desire to seek the cause.
