Francis: no evidence; no trust. Evidence is bottom up [concrete communication, exchange of a physical symbol], trust is top down [formal], Church lacks both.

The fundamental problem with the Church is that it is formal legal structure which imposes impossible conditions n human beings. The Church is an absolute monarchy which means in effect that one or few people have the power of life and death over a large number of people. They may execute this power by execution or starvation, and we see it happening frequently in history and in current events. [Australian government trying to remove money = power from the poor to the rich.]

In other words the formal structure that is the hypothesis upon which the Church is built is inconsistent with human reality and is therefore wrong and must be corrected.

One cannot correct something without knowing the

right answer. Here the field of proper answers is very narrow, either the world is divine or it is not. The Catholic Church took the not option and is now seen to be in error, so we must choose the other option, ie that the Universe is divine, we live inside God, in other words, and are parts of God's life. From this we conclude that all our experience is experience of God, and so theology can become an evidence based science like all the others. Experience is evidence.

Modern liberal civilization has gradually widened the human experiences upon which it is based. The long history of theology beginning, for many of us,with the Greeks and the Hebrews, shows us this process at work.

The Gods of the Iliad and the Hebrew Bible were very human, in a love / hate relationship with their people, sometimes making love, sometimes making war.

Human institutions must fit humanity, not vice versa, as monarchical institutions require.

I have transformed this pain into evidence for my indictment of the Church, and feel rather liberated, through the functioning of this inquiry, as I am sure many others who have been oppressed by the Church have felt.

We want a democratic evidence based church ruled by laws established in a democratic and evidence based way.

Religion is technology for constructing personal and collective peace on Earth. As in any industry, there are many different detailed technologies aimed at the same end.
