[Notebook: DB 89 Cognitive Cosmogenesis]

[page 12]

Sunday 23 April 2023

Gradually developing confidence in my physical theology project. It started as an impossibly quixotic atttack on the biggest and most powerful and long lived organizaion on the planet, the Roman Catholic Church. I am reaching the point where, although I know very few people will listen to me in either physics or

[page 13]

theology, I feel that I am on the right track. My most powerful 'weaspon' is the heuristic of simplicity where the Thomistic model of God and the physics of the initial singularity meet. After clearing the decks with the first seven pages of cosmic cosmlogy I am now down to page 8, where I establish that the software children of god are also gods, quanta of action, and that once we put aside the dogmatic constraint of the Trinity the path is open to imagine a universe of 0 divinities, as envisaged by Thales. Quanta are divine and eternal and so the procession of each quantum adds one to the entropy of the world, establishing the second (should be the first) law of thermodynamics. The emergence of Minkowski space from Hilbert space is in effect the creation of the classical world of particles whose interactions are modelled [executed] by the communications and computations in quantum Hibert space. There seems to me to be (in my blindness) no way to fault this picture of the world whose long form is currently cognitive cosmology and whose propaganda package will be cognitve cosmogenesis. By the end of 2023 I hope to be ready for the road, to invest in myself with an exceedsingly simple theory of everything based on the heuristic of simplicity and symmetry with respect to complexity carrying us from the initial singuarity to human rights and the politics of peace. I wish my dreams to come true, embedded in faith, hope and love. The function of art is to draw our attention to reality: Barry Humphries. Dame Edna pays tribute to ‘would-be comedian’ Barry Humphries in self-penned obituary, Telegraph Obituaries: Barry Humphries, Australian-born comic genius and creator of Dame Edna Everage – obituary

All I have to say is built around the meaning of words, their coupling to reality, which is sadly lacking in Christian doctrine and the embrace by physics of mathematical ideals like continuity and infinity that are not present in reality. The core of my story is the [logical] definition of continuity, embodied in the Turing machine and all computers, that communication occurs by contact, by sources reading from and writing to the same unit of memory, the same square on Turing's tape.

Sex sells, and the meaning of sex is embodied in Hilbert space, music and mind. I want my legacy to be brief and poetic backed by these thousands of pages of notes to document my painfully slow journey from Catholic baby to catholic humanity.

Let us say that gravitation is the image of God and is the source of the quanta of action that increase the entropy of the universe by converting structures in Hibert space into structures in Minkowski space by the zero energy bifurcation of quanta of action into contributions to

[page 15]

the undefined omnino simplex sea of of gravitational potential and the dynamic quanta of action thas build the entropy of the complexifying universe.

Uncertainty is the foundation of creation, and both certainty and uncertainty are built into the quantum of action as a measure just like the uncertainy in the markings on a measuring tape or any other measuring insrument. The role of gravitation is the observable representation of divinity and its role in creating observable dynamic reality from the [kinematic] Hilbert system flowing from the divinity by the creation of quanta of action and their bifurcation into potential and kinetic energy. This seems more and more outrageous, but also closer to the truth. In a historical perspective it seems nowhere as far from reality as the Book of Genesis introduction to humanity: an evil god who saddled us with death and original sin, blaming us as permanent victims to be exploited by theologically motivated warlords and their servants.

Gandhi: "Make India proud of herself."

It is good to feel good, but we need more substance built around the intrerface between Hilbert and Minkowski where all the problems in quantum theory seem to lie.

[page 16]

Lonergan follows Thomas and Augustine with relations to distinguish the persons of the Trinity but this is in effect a deus ex machina since relationships and the corresponding structures and differentiations are a consequence of communication and there is really no element of communication in the concept of ad aliquid, it seems purely formal with no dynamic content. Aquinas, Summa I, 28, 1: Are there real relations in God?

The Catholic Church follows the same playbook as Fox News, telling the faithful what they want to hear at the same time as claiming to speak infallibly and authoritatively for an omnipotent and omniscient God.

It is hard to have faith in myself after so many failures but I am the only one I have got and each time I write a bit more on my websites I feel a bit more hopeful. Soon I hope I will have something I can preach with integrity, not the false Veritas of the Ordo Praedicatorum that laid the foudations of my dissension from the Church. Ultimately success in this venture must be political, and so the goal for 2023 it to produce a preachable political

package, the statement of the problem and a proposed comprehensive solution. Beginning with the simplicity of the initial sigularity and the heuristic of simplicity and working toward the universe with the symmetry with respect to complexity built into Hilbert spaces and communication networks. At the moment it is based on the structure of cc [cognitive cosmology] but some sort of radical revision may be becessary. Best to aim for a 2k word essay to start the ball rolling.

Hilbert space is kinematic, driven by god, which, with the discovery of the Minkowski metric, brings spacetime and dynamics into existence, driven by god [the initial singularity of pure act] at one remove and so on through the universal hierarchy made possible by the combinination of gravitation and quantum mechanics. Gravitation is a closed [and therefore curved] version of Minkowski space.

I have always been rather sceptical of the biographies of the 'mystics' like John [of the Cross] and their ilk, but now they begin to fall into place as I begin to understand my own mental evolution in the contxt of the evolution of the universe as it is beginning to emerge in cognitive cosmogenesis. Dark Night of the Soul - Wikipedia

[page 18]

I have been having a bit of a dark night of the soul partly brought on by the failure of my old computer and the difficulties I have been having getting the new machine to execute the old code and keep the [internet] publishing operation going. This has led me to work on an essay designed for conventional print to encapsulate my story in brief. This has led me to think again with the doctrine of the trinity as it was developed by Augustine, Aquinas and Lonergan by their introspection into their own minds which has led me to the concept of the intial sigularity creating Hilbert space by the active creation of quanta of action which are analogous to the persons of the Trinity, feeding the Hilbert space that lies at the kinetic foundation of the universe. All the stories about the self imposed privations of the desert fathers and generations of mystics fall into place as somewhat misguided efforts to torture themselves into speeding up their mental evolution toward some sort of personal theory of everything that serves to anchor them in the sea of life by establishing a mystical connection to the divinity. Einstein and Darwin, and everybody really, are on the same trip which explains the nature and progress of science bringing us closer to the divine heart of the Universe with the usual array of false steps that lead us astray, like Einstein's attachment to general covariance that

[page 19]

showed him general relativity but blinded him to quantum mechanics. Now I feel that I will be out of the dark night by my 80th birthday and will have something to contribute to the development of the science of peace when this is done and this reassures me in the midst of the difficulties of life and in some way bolsters my mental heath in a space of faith, hope and charity. This inspiration, I hope, will finally justify my lifetime of theology and give me something that I can honestly preach to the world, honestly share with a romantic partner, honestly profit from economically and hopefully convince my children and various ex's that I an authentic and valuable member of my species, all a sort of happy ever after which is the aim of so much artistic endeavour. The Cloud of Unknowing - Wikipedia

What I am seeking to do is to replace the fiat of creation in Genesis with a mechanical process analogous to the procession of the persons of the Trinity through which the Initial Singularity (aka God) creates the Universe within itself.

Gravitational potential realizes the logical structures created by Hilbert space by contributing the kinetic energy necessay to bring them into existence from its bottomless well of potential energy. So the page on gravitation needs to be moved

[page 20]

right up next to the page on the discovery of Minkowski space.

Let us say that the initial singularity, aka god, is a continuous, compact convex set; and let quantum mechanics be the set of functions [algebraically complete] mapping this set onto itself; and let every one of these different functions maybe 0 or 1 of them have a fixed point which we can imagine to be a basis vector in a Hilbert space [formed inside the initial singularity just as the Trinity is in God]. Further let this set up be part of a zero energy universe whose potential energy (gravitation) contributes the potential energy to give the energy which realizes the kinetic energy to make each one of these fixed points into a real particle in Minkowski space. This is take 1, now beautify it. The short essay is to be written according to the Feynman plan, no mathematics, just ideas: A physical understanding is a completely unmathematical, imprecise, and inexact thing, but absolutely necessary for a physicist. Feynman, Lectures on Physics, II: Chapter 2: Differential Calculus of Vector Fields

Let us contrast the zero energy universe with the cosmological constant problem and conclude that quantum field theory with its continuous mathematics, point particles, infinities and renormalizations is rubbish and what we really want is the music of the spheres described in Hilbert space and Fourier transformed into the Turing vacuum, the computational logical network ideal that is isomorphic up to a Fourier transform with Hilbert space.

Anne Pender, Remembering Barry Humphries, the man who enriched the culture, reimagined the one man show and upended the cultural cringe, ' Barry Humphries began his career as a Dadaist. His street performances around Melbourne in the early 1950s foreshadowed performance art in Australia. He was the most daring student prankster Melbourne University had ever known. Years later, academic Peter Conrad accurately described Humphries’ adolescence as a “one man modern movement”. The young man secured his first paid acting role after a number of complaints from various women about a Dadaist event called Call Me Madman!, staged at the University of Melbourne’s Union Theatre in 1953. It was anarchic, just like the early Dada shows of the Cabaret Voltaire in Zurich several decades earlier. Call Me Madman! opened with a single musical phrase played on a violin over and over again, then a pianist sitting out of view of the audience sounded the same chords and notes in repetition, and ended in a ferocious food fight, with Humphries hiding in a cupboard from the outraged students who stormed the stage.' back

Aquinas, Summa I, 28, 1, Are there real relations in God?, 'Reply to Objection 4. Relations which result from the mental operation alone in the objects understood are logical relations only, inasmuch as reason observes them as existing between two objects perceived by the mind. Those relations, however, which follow the operation of the intellect, and which exist between the word intellectually proceeding and the source whence it proceeds, are not logical relations only, but are real relations; inasmuch as the intellect and the reason are real things, and are really related to that which proceeds from them intelligibly; as a corporeal thing is related to that which proceeds from it corporeally. Thus paternity and filiation are real relations in God.' back

Christian Tornau (Stanford Encyclopedia of Phiosophy), Saint Augistine, ' Because of his importance for the philosophical tradition of the Middle Ages he is often listed as the first medieval philosopher. But even though he was born several decades after the emperor Constantine I had terminated the anti-Christian persecutions and, in his mature years, saw the anti-pagan and anti-heretic legislation of Theodosius I and his sons, which virtually made Catholic (i.e., Nicene) Christianity the official religion of the Roman Empire, Augustine did not live in a “medieval” Christian world. Pagan religious, cultural and social traditions were much alive in his congregation, as he often deplores in his sermons, and his own cultural outlook was, like that of most of his learned upper-class contemporaries, shaped by the classical Latin authors, poets and philosophers whom he studied in the schools of grammar and rhetoric long before he encountered the Bible and Christian writers. Throughout his work he engages with pre- and non-Christian philosophy, much of which he knew from firsthand. Platonism in particular remained a decisive ingredient of his thought. He is therefore best read as a Christian philosopher of late antiquity shaped by and in constant dialogue with the classical tradition.' back

Colin Woodard, The Surprising Geography of Gun Violence, ' In reality, the region the Big Apple comprises most of is far and away the safest part of the U.S. mainland when it comes to gun violence, while the regions Florida and Texas belong to have per capita firearm death rates (homicides and suicides) three to four times higher than New York’s. On a regional basis it’s the southern swath of the country — in cities and rural areas alike — where the rate of deadly gun violence is most acute, regions where Republicans have dominated state governments for decades.' back

Dame Edna Everage, Dame Edna pays tribute to ‘would-be comedian’ Barry Humphries in self-penned obituary, ' Dame Edna Everage writes: Barry Humphries was an unknown aspiring actor and would-be comedian when I first met him in the early 1950s. It is true that he put me on stage for the first time in December 1955, but it was in order to belittle me and get cheap laughs at my expense and ridicule the great Australian way of life. How the tables were turned! I became the star and he merely a footnote to my spectacular career. His tragedy was his desire to be an artist and we know what happens to failed artists – Hitler, for example – they either become interior decorators or mass murderers. Barry was spared this fate. He became rich due to my efforts and signed me up to a contract that bound me for life. He had a lovely family and my heart goes out to them as well as to his unfortunate wives and numerous stage-struck research assistants. If these words seem uncharitable in the context of an obituary, I am fortunate that The Daily Telegraph, unsurprisingly, was eager to publish them.' back

Feynman, Leighton and Sands FLP II_02, Chapter 2: Differential Calculus of Vector Fields, ' What it means really to understand an equation—that is, in more than a strictly mathematical sense—was described by Dirac. He said: “I understand what an equation means if I have a way of figuring out the characteristics of its solution without actually solving it.” So if we have a way of knowing what should happen in given circumstances without actually solving the equations, then we “understand” the equations, as applied to these circumstances. A physical understanding is a completely unmathematical, imprecise, and inexact thing, but absolutely necessary for a physicist. ' back

Gandhi (film) - Wikipedia, Gandhi (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, ' Gandhi is a 1982 epic biographical film based on the life of Mahatma Gandhi, the leader of an Indian independence movement against the British Empire during the 20th century. A co-production between India and the United Kingdom, the historical drama was directed and produced by Richard Attenborough from a screenplay written by John Briley. It stars Ben Kingsley in the title role. The biographical film covers Gandhi's life from a defining moment in 1893, as he is thrown off from a South African train for being in a whites-only compartment and concludes with his assassination and funeral in 1948. Although a practising Hindu, Gandhi's embracing of other faiths, particularly Christianity and Islam, is also depicted.' back

Holbrook. Bongiorno & Arrow (24 April 2023), The Australian War Memorial must deal properly with the frontier wars, ' Some of those who are resistant to coverage of the frontier wars assert the war memorial is hamstrung by its legislation, which restricts its remit to overseas wars or those fought by uniformed personnel. In truth, the Australian War Memorial Act 1980 contains a very broad definition of the institution’s role as a national memorial to Australians who have died as a result of any war and warlike operations. In any case, over its history, the memorial has adapted to shifting political imperatives and social mores.' back

The Cloud of Unknowing - Wikipedia, The Cloud of Unknowing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, 'The Cloud of Unknowing (Middle English: The Cloude of Unknowyng) is an anonymous work of Christian mysticism written in Middle English in the latter half of the 14th century. The text is a spiritual guide on contemplative prayer in the Late Middle Ages. The underlying message of this work suggests that the way to know God is to abandon consideration of God's particular activities and attributes, and be courageous enough to surrender one's mind and ego to the realm of "unknowing", at which point one may begin to glimpse the nature of God. Jacob L Nelson, Tucker Carlson’s departure and Fox News’ expensive legal woes show the problem with faking ‘authenticity’, ' Messages made public as part of the Dominion suit show Carlson, for example, said that he believed that Sidney Powell, Trump’s lawyer, was lying about election fraud claims. But, he added “our viewers are good people and they believe it.” Fox wasn’t telling its audience what to believe. Instead, it was following its audience’s lead and presenting a false narrative that aligned with what its viewers wanted to be true. Once Fox’s broadcasters and the Fox audience became bonded by the network’s outsider status, those broadcasters felt compelled to follow the audience off a cliff of election misinformation and right into a defamation lawsuit. The alternative would run the risk of sullying its populist persona and, ironically, its credibility with its audience. As New York Times TV critic James Poniewozik observed, “The customer is always right. In fact, the customer is boss.” . . . .. For decades, Fox’s prolonged popularity has made it clear that authenticity is truly valuable when it comes to building credibility and audience loyalty. Now, the network’s settlement with Dominion has revealed just how manipulative and insincere that authenticity can be.' back

Jennifer Rubin (22 April 2023), Opinion: The Supreme Court delivers a sigh of relief — and an outrageous dissent, ' nIn the rush to celebrate the failure of medical zealots (this time) to dredge up an antiabortion activist in robes to countermand the FDA, Alito’s dissent shouldn’t be ignored, for it perfectly encapsulates the degree to which he’s become “unmoored from reason,” as legal scholar Norman Eisen tells me. . . . Looking at the entirety of Alito’s dissent, constitutional scholar Leah Litman reels off the outrages, including the plaintiffs’ sprint to Amarillo, the “whataboutisms” in the shadow docket and the “willful blindness to the effects of the Fifth Circuit ruling.” She adds, “It reads like a Fox News grandpa’s rant.” She points to the irony that the author of Dobbs, which stressed the role of states and elected branches, now is “most eager to support federal courts ordering bans on medication abortion protocols.” “There is some real chutzpah,” she adds. It’s interesting that this judicial travesty came after the delay in releasing the decision (originally due Wednesday), possibly as a courtesy to Alito from his colleagues. Next time, for the sake of the court, the rule of law and even Alito, the court might not give him the time he needs to embarrass himself.' back
