Lonergan page 709: Special Transcendent Knowledge

' . . . there is the fact of evil and many inclined to argue from that fact to a denial of the intelligence or the power or the goodness of God. . . . ie what God is or has been doing about the fact of evil. The answer to that question we will name special transcendent knowledge and the answer falls under 4 heads: the fact of evil; the existence of a solution; the heuristic structure of the properties of possible solutions; and the identification of the solution that exists.

'Among the evils that afflict man none is graver than the erroneous beliefs which at once distort his mind and make systematic aberrations of his conduct.' Ie the beliefs of the Roman Catholic Church [no mention of child sexual and intellectual abuse, war, genocide, famine poverty etc etc!]. Kieran Tapsell (2014): Potiphar's Wife: The Vatican's Secret and Child Sexual Abuse (2014)

page 710: ' the thesis of progress needs to be affirmed again'.

page 711: 'An unrestricted desire to understand correctly heads toward an unrestricted act of understanding, toward God.' Why god? [an unexplained deus ex machina]

' The social surd.'

page 712: cosmopolis

page 714: ' Bad will is not merely the inconsistency of natural

[page 38]

self consciousness, it is also a sin against God.' Your God?

Lonergan page 716: The problem of evil arises because god exists. Problem → answer [ie Lonergan things that if there is no answer (his god) then there cannot be a problem].

page 717: ' There are no divine afterthoughts. The unrestricted act of understanding grasps the total range of total world orders'. A bit like the impossible demon of Laplace! Laplace's demon - Wikipedia

page 718: 'We have affirmed the existence both of the problem and its solution within the intelligible unity of the actual order of the universe.' as understood by your fictitious omniscient god. So we have a 13 point heuristic structure which defines a solution?

1. solution will be one; 2 universally accessible and permanent; 3. consistent extensi0n of the present; 4 no new genes or species; 5 new

page 719: ideas (c0njugate forms?); 6. knowledge first, then action rather than vice versa; 7. ideas will be transcendent or supernatural - easy; 8. Since solution will inlclude 3 above so control of non-systematic or irrational must be controlled; 9. higher conjugate forms (again);

page 720: 10. Solution will come to men by insight; 11. Here enters evolution, made possible by variation; 12. So maybe it could happen; 13. Therefore the solution will be a species of charity.' All this kerfufffle to tell us what Jesus said 2k years ago drawing on nk of tradition, ie love your neighbour; love god.

page 721: 'Again the actual order of the universe is good and value

[pag 39]

chosen by god for manfestation of the perfection of God ' How do you know this? [Remember that God screwed the Universe up due to the human sin in Eden] More Jesus stuff: meet evil with good, love your enemies etc,

page 723: 14.hope.

page 724: 15. ' There is needed in the present a universally accessible and permanently effective manner of pulling men's minds out of the counterpositions and fixing them in the positions, of securing for them the certitude that God exists and that he has provided a solution which they are to acknowledge and accept.'

page 725: We cannot work out the answer for ourselves so we have to listen to those who know. So we need faith, belief and we have to identify someone who knows.

page 736: ' If the determination of the origin of mistaken beliefs raises no new issues, neither does the problem of eliminating from one's mind the rubbish (like Catholic dogma) that may have settled there in a lifelong symbiosis of personal inquiry and believing.'

page 739: ' If man's will matched the detachment and unrestricted devotion of the pure desire to know the problem would not arise.' This is such rubbish, perpetuated by a man embedded in a 2kyear old matrix of Christian rubbish. People go to war using carefully designed weapons because predation is a natural feature of evolution built into it by god.

[page 40]

I owe a lot to Lonergan: from reading and rereading his book I appreciated the consequences of the Thomistic idea that the omnipotent and omniscient god has providence over everything and so the whole system is in fact an integrated whole like a laplacian deterministic network; which is not the case. Spacelike separation is the source of independence and entanglement is a weaker source of dependence, conveying coincidence of events free of information.Yet to understand this.

Lonergan page 740: Now we come to 16, continued from 15 on page 724. Higher collaboration which provides an antidote to the sin of error.

page 741: 17: 'the existence of a solution [to the problem of evil] is affirmed because of divine wisdom, divine goodness and divine omnipotence.'

18: this solution will be some species of faith: 'the requisite conjugate forms that perfect intellect in any of the series of possible solutions within the reach of divine omnipotence' ie as Thomas would say give us all the vision of god's essence so we can all live happily ever after as pure spirits with no demands for physical inputs and outputs. Aquinas, Summa, II, I, 3, 8: Is human blessedness the vision of the essence of God?

' Moreover it can be shown (???) that this faith will be a transcendent belief'.

[page 41]

Lonergan page 741 (c0nt): 18: Three stages of faith, ie faith, hope, love.

20:

page 742: This faith comes from reliance on the truthfulness of God (relayed through the lying Roman Catholic Church).

21: 'Affirmation of human spiritual nature, freedom, responsibility and sinfulness [we are getting beyond rubbish here].

22: ' Intelligence and reasonableness mean that we accept the problem of evil, accept that god can fix it and that [the fix] has happened somewhere.

23; Sensible to agree because god can be trusted (see comment to 20 above).

24: Because the solution is a harmonipus continuation of business as usual (no paradigm change) we will all collaborate permanently.

page 243: 25: Probem of evil exists becasie God respects our freedom and the soplution leaves freedom intact (ie do what the pope tells you).

page 744: 26: Since the solution is the work of God heresy cannot upset it since God is omnipotent and omniscient, so we should not worry. [See no mention of the old idea that God causes (allows) bad things to cause even better things to happen].

27: Although the solution is an intellectual matter of faith, hope and charity, it must also penetrate to the sensitive level and envelope it.

page 745; 28: Will be effective in that it does not prevent evil but enables us to rise above it, so like Lawrence we can crack jokes while they are torturing us to death.

29: Solution will have nature, content and signifiance of its own, so we will all vote for it if we can see it.

[page 42]

Lonergan pager 746: 30: ' The consequent religious changes will reveal to us truths that we could never have discovered by ourselves.' Rubbish, they are there to be found in our own bodies which long since established a cosmopolis of independent cells.

page 747 31: ;The solution will be supernatural which not only meets human need but goes beyond it to transform it into the point of insertion into human life of truths beyond human comprehension, of values beyond human estimation, of an alliance and love that, so to speak, brings God to close to man.' So we cry tears of joy!

page 748 'New Jerusalem' What is the old boy smoking?

page 749: 'there will be humanism in revolt against the proffered supernatural solution. It will ignore the problem of evil (???), it will contest the fact of as solution, it will condemn mystery as myth; it will demand reason and exclude faith; etc etc, the usual problems faced by a preacher, ie me. I could not preach what the Dominicans wanted me to preach, or the Jesuits, but I still have hope because we live in the mind of God and we can see everything we need to know by straight science without listening to metasphysical snake oil.

page 750: 'There remains the problem of identifying the

[page 43]

solution that exists.

'. . . it is a divinely sponsored collaboration in the transcendental application of the truths of the solution . . .'

Lonergan page 751; ' . . . the realization of the solution and its development in each of us is principally the work of God, who illuminates our intellects to understand what we had not understood and to grasp as unconditioned what we had reputed error, who breaks the bonds of our habitual unwillingness to be utterly genuine in intelligent inquiry and critical reflection by inspiring the hope that reinforces the detailed disinterested, unrestricted desire to know and by infusing the charity, the love that bestows on intelligence the fullness of life.

All good. The only thing you have got wrong is your god, but I am fixing that. You are another victim of the deceptive bullshit of the Roman Catholic military-theological complex.

The last chapter of Lonergan has done a lot to confirm me in my project since the evolution of the divine mind covers all the bases and being inside an observable god gives us certainty we can never get from ancient texts interpreted by confidence persons.

Does mention of all the Lonergan stuff recorded on these

[page 44]

few pages add anything to Cognitive Cosmogenesis Page 5: Introduction—gravitation is the touch of god ? Yes, it exposes the weakness of the Catholic understanding of evil, putting it down to simply an intellectual problem arising from failing to understand divine providence whereas the evolutionary treatment of evil I propose brings it into the realm of observable reality and therefore makes it treatable. Chapter 27: The political consequences of physical theology is far more substantial that Lonergan's silly 31 point eulogy of Catholicism, so it must go in. I just need to be patient because every day my insight goes deeper. And maybe today the rotten share market might creep up a bit.

For Christians evil is in fact a feature of the world [a happy fault] since it gives them a reason for being. Evil was not an element of the newly created world which was imagined as a paradise, the lion lying down with the lamb and the child playing next to the snake's hole. There was no need for religion, redemption, salvation or any of that. These became necessary because God respected the freedom of humans and angels, they sinned and God was forced to punish them by introducing work, pain and death and turning the world of matter against the world of spirit. Later God relented, tortured his Son to death to make himself feel better and promised that eventually the original plan would be implemented and paradise would be regained. All this is fiction from

[page 45]

start to finish. Then we turn to the real story, the eternal initial singularity evolving by means of omnipotence and consistency to its present state leaving various evils as vestiges of creation, most of which come under the headings of accident or predation.

It is rather distressing that Lonergan's account of the Christian answer to the myriad evils besetting the world should be so weak and irrelevant. This encourages me in my approach.

Still trying to get introduction aqt05_introduction right. Concentrate on simplicity? evil? hope? science? discovery? babel? experience? internet? humanity? So what do I want?

Why do I often wake up in the morning feeling despair about the

world when I know I am alive and well and living in a beautiful world. When I know that the Catholic doctrines are all rubbish and I have a far better idea struggling for a hearing? When what I really want, although I am shy and lazy, is to be heard? That I must produce a sensational story to overcome the forces of evil. That I understand how the forces of evil are built into the same evolutionary process that made me. What is the headline that comes out of all this?

My hope has always been in what I call the Einstein route: to make a discovery that demands worldwide attention like relativity. I think I have got it, but what exactly is it? How can I express myself? see list Tuesday 23: Gravitation is our experience of God. This is my most exciting claim.

Put it in Latin to make it true: Gravitas vestigium Dei, GVD Is it true - this is what the book is intended to prove. Finally grasped the nettle and faced the implications of my work, getting into bed with Einstein and beginning revision of cognitive cosmogenesis to reflect this change, developing a new version of the HTML and then bringing it back to PDF in pternip/print/books/cc.GVD (24_7)/X.html.

Augustine

Einstein / Hawking ? initial singularity

Gravitation is the hand of God - The scientific conclusion

The problem of evil. - The political conclusion.

Getting there step by step. The first event in the intial singularity is the creation of Hilbert space by reflection, as in the trinity, by fixed point theory,

'Intoduction and chapter 1 Impossibl done. Starting chapter 2 and wondering how to incorporate the kinetic / dynamic connection in the process of turning form into substance. Aristotle did

[page 48]

it with matter and we do it with energy, [eg] deepening the gravitational potential to get the energy to turn the form of an electron into an electron.

The next thing to work on is the intelligent role of the interaction of matrices and vectors and hoping to exploit the idea that we can do it all with a discussion of entropy as a third degree of abstraction on the line arithmetic - algebra - entropy insofar as a matrix as a squared vector has more entropy than the equivalent vector. Need to study a bit here to get deeper into the eigenvalue equation and the role of the dynamic degree of freedom built into the kinema of complex numbers and rays. The idea, on this pass, is to sculpt the book into a logically complete stable structure as Einstein did with general relativity which is taking my limited energy and intelligence to the limit.

Since I decided to make gravitation my god my imposter syndrome has been playing up a bit making me doubt myself. I am also a little bit unsettled because my landlord has asked me to leave in two months and will not tell me why. So I am motivated more than usual to test my ideas carefully as I publish them on the web and contemplate starting a theological youtube channel to bring in a bit of attention and perhaps cash.

Saturday 27 July 2024

There is no limit on the hypotheses that both scientists

[page 49]

and nature can develop by random exploration of the space of possibility. This lies at the core of Augustine's de Trinitate, like a wise explorer he tries to limit the space of exploration by analogy, or as Lonergan would say, by heuristic method. Heuristic method can be good if the analogy is in fact good, and I am with Augustine and Lonergan in the space where we think of our mental processes as analogous to reality. Plato introduced us to the kinematic method when we explore formal structures without going to the expense of actually building them. This is the power of mathematics, fixed point theory and the Lagrangian method through which we design trajectories and thrusts to get spacecraft to the Moon.

The cognitive approach to cosmogenesis builds on Augustine's theories of the trinity by seeing the emergence of Hilbert space and quantum mechanics in the dynamic initial singularity as a way to explore the possibility of establishing a group of fundamental particles which form an embodied algorithm for the creation of a universe beginning from the code for binding built into gravitation. We can see that this idea is generally valid insofar as when we use high energy accelerators to bash particles together and create bubbles of energy we always get the same sort of fundamental particles emerging and this suggests that this particular set of particles are the ones that can continue to sustain themselves at low energy and build the Universe. Now back to page 2 Trinity.

[page 50]

Continuing this thought we wonder why quarks and gluons cannot exist outside hadrons, and this suggests that the set of fundamental particles which we can observe moving freely round us like protons, neutrons, electrons, photons neutrinos etc have the same relationship to the Universe, particularly in its tiny initial state when it was a 'hadron', insofar as in this 'second' initial state they all depend on one another for existence as quarks and gluons depend on one another. We may see this as a consequence of Hilbert space and quantum mechanics existing prior to spacetime so that we see this second set of fundamental particles all depending on one another for existence [via entanglement?] in the quantum regime even though we observe them as independent particles in the spacetime regime which the overall distinction into fermions and bosons creates. So we can imgine hierarchies of existence in Hilbert space in some way prior to the existence of Minkowski space, ie the source of super-selection rules and the distinction between electrodynamics, chromodynamics and their intersection in weak dynamics.

Proofread and upload cognitive cosmology as far as page 5 God's ideas. Back to cognitive cosmogenesis HTML and need to replace cqt03_lonergan with page 3 from cognitive cosmology because there is too much Lonergan already in the picture.

Alex Lo (2024_07_21), US warns China: no killer fridges and dishwashers for Russia, ' Just as Washington deliberately drew a non-existent connection between Iraq and the 9/11 terrorist attacks, it is desperately trying to connect China with their faltering proxy war in Ukraine. China is trading with Russia, they say, thus enabling its war economy. Well, China and every other country outside the Western alliance, and even Europe is still importing massive amounts of natural gas from Russia, while pretending that’s not so! But “China continues to be a major supplier of dual-use items to Russia’s war machine,” Sullivan said. “It’s the instruments that go into the weapons that are killing Ukrainians and oppressing Ukraine. And we think China should stop because we think it is profoundly outside the bounds of decent conduct by nation states.” Decency? Seriously Jake, from you? Aquinas, Summa, II, I, 3, 8, Is human blessedness the vision of the essence of God?, ' I answer that, Final and perfect happiness can consist in nothing else than the vision of the Divine Essence. To make this clear, two points must be observed. First, that man is not perfectly happy, so long as something remains for him to desire and seek: secondly, that the perfection of any power is determined by the nature of its object. . . . Consequently, for perfect happiness the intellect needs to reach the very Essence of the First Cause. It is now clear that generative artificial intelligence (AI) such as large language models (LLMs) is here to stay and will substantially change the ecosystem of online text and images. Here we consider what may happen to GPT-{n} once LLMs contribute much of the text found online. We find that indiscriminate use of model-generated content in training causes irreversible defects in the resulting models, in which tails of the original content distribution disappear. We refer to this effect as ‘model collapse’ and show that it can occur in LLMs as well as in variational autoencoders (VAEs) and Gaussian mixture models (GMMs). We build theoretical intuition behind the phenomenon and portray its ubiquity among all learned generative models. We demonstrate that it must be taken seriously if we are to sustain the benefits of training from large-scale data scraped from the web. Indeed, the value of data collected about genuine human interactions with systems will be increasingly valuable in the presence of LLM-generated content in data crawled from the Internet.' back

Matthew D. Taylor, Opinion | Trump Prophets Are in a Frenzy After the Assassination Attempt , ' It’s important to be clear about what I mean by prophecy and how it is understood by different groups of evangelicals. Almost all evangelicals believe in biblical prophecy, the idea that there are passages in the Bible that describe or allude to future events. This is the realm of ecstatic megachurches, silver-tongued televangelists and entrepreneurial prophets.
