Page 2: Mathematical Theology

It used to be said that god is ineffable, that is unspeakable. Here we feel that that is not entirely true. Given our working assumption, we are part of god, and so what we know of ourselves and our environment is knowledge of god. We express our knowledge in language. Natural human languages have small finite vocabularies, and are tailored to deal with relatively limited ranges of things and situations. Mathematics, on the other hand, takes the combinatorial properties of language to their limit, giving an unlimited space of meanings. Physics and biology show that mathematics is able to deal with the simpler aspects of god. Here we begin to apply mathematical methods to theological questions to see just how far we can go in our in our comprehension of the whole.
