The quantum states are not visible. What is visible
[page 23]
are the operations that transform one state into another, or we might say elicit messages from the system of states. Messages (and this is a tautology) are observable.
In the communication network the reference frames are the communication protocols which are layered so while all my electrons are doing quantum mechanical things, me the user may be using them according to a vastly complex protocol to walk or make love or simply be at rest.
Only communication is 'objective' and every communication has two sources that may be named object and subject in either way. Who is looking at who?

We can relax when things are fixed. Once we get one screw into a sheet of (corrugated roofing) steel, it can no longer slip down the roof. it is safe to walk on, in the sense that in thirty years of roofing I have not seen a roofing screw give way under these circumstances. In my mind the Turing version of general covariance is beginning to fix. It seems like a good idea and a sort of proof that GENERAL COVARIANCE == COMPUTABLE MANIFOLD.
Einstein's epistemology: who can we trust? only contact. A most remarkable feature of the Universe is that although our everyday world is spatially extended, there are nevertheless in physical spacetime zero intervals (ie contacts) between events distant from one another in space and time.

The length of the geodesic traversed by a photon (or anything else moving at the velocity of light, is zero.
