Computational universality. We can do anything with enough NAND gates, enough cycles and enough memory. Thus the first requirement for universality is expressed as cardinal numbers. However, the existence of any cardinal greater than one and of

any ordered set requires memory, which in a Turing machine is represented by the tape. A major speedup is achieved by making a computer whose memory is random access rather than sequential access [so that the distance from the processor to any memory location is simply one unit] rather than sequential access as it is with tapelike devices. Geometrical space is sequential access memory, as my sore feet attest from spending a day walking around Bangkok. Ordinary space is three dimensional, meaning that we can define addresses using a vector of three ordered sets of numbers. We ask why, and the best answer to date is that we can move sequentially from any point in three space to any other without 'crossed wires' or crossed paths. If motion requires that we sequentially change the state of each point in our path, this means that two points can communicate while leaving at least some other points undisturbed.Rain
Why 3D? This is a core question in the mapping of logic to geometry.
Sound is essentially a 1D channel, although the channel corresponding to an extended source (like an orchestra) may be different at every point in space (so stereophonic sound). However most of the data us available in one source (speaker or microphone) so we come back to the distinction between serial and parallel and see 3D space as three parallel independent channels.Another core question for the network picture is how to get the cardinal numbers computed by physics out of the network picture. The route must start with the quantum of action, using superposition to compute the traffic and therefore the energy and momentum in various channels, ie various links between sources.

There can be little doubt that the first model of eternal bliss that occurs to those of us who have experienced it is sexual bliss. Theologians all (in different voices) encourage us to love God. If the Universe is divine, my lover is more than a gorgeous willing woman (if that be possible) but includes rivers, mountains, scuba gear, mathematics and Luna parks. Not to mention the painful experiences intersperses among the pleasurable. Our simple policy is to increase pleasure and reduce pain. This requires careful control over the deliberate elicitation of pain by the torturers of this world, not excluding whiners, naggers and bores.

TIME is the abstraction of complex processes into a common measure. So as a surgeon's time may earn the same income as a lawyer's time (or a ditch digger as a checkout operator), they are doing very different things to earn their money. The economy works because money serves as a common protocol uniting all public economic processes. In private, of course, money cannot buy love etc.
