Always trying to work out how the universe started from the initial singularity. Physicists seem to think it just happened, a bit like Yahweh's fiat in Genesis [because they assume that the initial singularity had infinite energy], but there needs to be more to it than that and I frequently look to Augustine and Aquinas's explanation of the Trinity for guidance. I often wonder why the authors of the New Testament thought up the Trinity in the first place, maybe an idea imported from further east. However, as explained last week, a continuum is something where nothing happens, so there is really nothing to be said about a one dimensional continuum as pseudo-Dionysius was aware. Things become more interesting when a second orthogonal continuum emerges to create a 2D space. On the principle that nothing come from nothing, we might see hy a 2D continuum has a Minkowski-like metric signature, 1, -1, where we interpret time being in a sense the
[page 293]
antiparticle of space [both with, perhaps, almost zero energy to expain the weakness of gravitation and the flatness of inertial space-time]. Since physics, cosmology and philosophy have nothing to say in this realm, we are free to speculate wildly, that is to formulate weird hypotheses.
The only way one particle can become two is to interact with itself [since there is nothing else to interact with] as the Father does to generate the Son. The Word is the Father' image of itself.
The fundamental orthogonality in the universe is the 4D nature of space-time which we take to be a vestigium Trinitatis. Aquinas, Summa I, 45, 7: Is any trace of the Trinity to be found in created things?
Communication presupposes the existence of a potential [to make it happen]. So electrons existing in a potential can change their relative 'positions' in the potential by exchanging photons, so a high energy electron in the Sun can lose energy by emitting a photon which can be absorbed by an electron on Earth to raise its energy state. We can generalize this idea to human society by understanding our communications to change our relative potential differences, from friendship to enmity [or master to slave], for instance. This idea, which has just occurred to me, seems relatively trivial, but on the other hand it completely changes my view of the relationship between communication and potential, hopefully in a direction useful to my overall project. It provides me with a new way of looking at the relationship between communication and force [the motivation to communicate, or the content of a communication].

In the traditional story the Universe was created and is controlled by a pre-existing omnipotent and omniscient divinity which is responsible for the micromanagement of the Universe down to the smallest scale and totally knows and controls the whole
[page 294]
past, present and future The modern alternative is that the universe began as a structureless initial singularity from which it has emerged to its present state. The question arises: how did this happen? How did the completely simple initial state become the enormously complex universe we now inhabit? The basic idea, stolen from the Trinity, is that self reference is creative, ie the source of my creation is my self awareness, as Descartes notices, if we attend to things long enough, we come up with clear and distinct ideas. Aquinas, Summa, I, 8, 3: Is God everywhere by essence, power and presence?
What I need to do is first establish that logic is a mechanism.

In the Trinity God duplicated itself by copying just as a computer can duplicate itself by copying its software into a new memory. The creation of memory (software) requires the creation of memory (hardware). A particle is a physical representation of memory, that is of information. What does a photon say? An electron? This seems to be so obvious that despite my knowledge of the procession of the Word for 55 years I have only thought of it in the last few days and it is a key input into my thesis.

From a computational point of view, a bijective function space is a set of [lossless] codecs, in other word we may see it as a set of network atoms, each comprising a point in the range
[page 295]
and a point in the domain and a reversible (lossless = entropy conserving) mapping between them.
Periodicity is an intimate ingredient of music. I love music but am not a player and do not seem to have periodicity built into me [so much] as randomness and noise.

A night of interesting and unremembered dreams. Yes, mostly about mapping a neural network onto a Hilbert space and the great loss of data in the process of integration / calculation of inner product to produce a metric in that space. The idea was that superposition blots out a lot of detail that is contained in the idea that we can establish one to one correspondence between neurons and basis states of a quantum mechanical observable on the understanding that both sets of objects are orthogonal and the orthogonalities between them are broken by communication which has the effect of isolating clear and distinct ideas in the neural network and eigenfunctions /eigenvalues in the Hilbert network. Synaptic weights are analogous to the overlap integral in quantum mechanics.
Quantum field theory embodies the same conundrum as we find in the omniscient God, the storage of a vast amount of information in a [continuous] structure (a set of mathematical Hilbert spaces located at the points in space-time) with no [physical] representative vehicles, in violation of Landauer's idea that information is physical. Rolf Landauer: Information in physical
All this stuff is an echo of the old Platonic / Aristotelian idea that structureless spirit is the ground of intelligence, and God is maximally intelligent because it i maximally spiritual. The core of my thesis is to debunk this idea. Aquinas, Summa: I, 14, 1: Is there knowledge in God?
[page 296]
The network model that applies in quantum theory and neural networks also applies to social networks and may serve to deliver some clarity in that domain.
I am bored because nothing new is happening in my mind. I could do something useful, but lack the motivation, except to write about my boredom and lack of motivation. Check the rain radar and go for a walk.

Aquinas, Summa I, 45, 7, Is any trace of the Trinity to be found in created things?, ' Now the processions of the divine Persons are referred to the acts of intellect and will, as was said above (Article 27). For the Son proceeds as the word of the intellect; and the Holy Ghost proceeds as love of the will. Therefore in rational creatures, possessing intellect and will, there is found the representation of the Trinity by way of image, inasmuch as there is found in them the word conceived, and the love proceeding.' back |
Aquinas, Summa, I, 8, 3, Is God everywhere by essence, power and presence?, ' Therefore, God is in all things by His power, inasmuch as all things are subject to His power; He is by His presence in all things, as all things are bare and open to His eyes; He is in all things by His essence, inasmuch as He is present to all as the cause of their being.' back |
Aquinas, Summa: I, 14, 1, Is there knowledge in God?, ' I answer that, In God there exists the most perfect knowledge. To prove this, we must note that intelligent beings are distinguished from non-intelligent beings in that the latter possess only their own form; whereas the intelligent being is naturally adapted to have also the form of some other thing; for the idea of the thing known is in the knower. Hence it is manifest that the nature of a non-intelligent being is more contracted and limited; whereas the nature of intelligent beings has a greater amplitude and extension; therefore the Philosopher says (De Anima iii) that "the soul is in a sense all things." Now the contraction of the form comes from the matter. Hence, as we have said above (Question 7, Article 1) forms according as they are the more immaterial, approach more nearly to a kind of infinity. Therefore it is clear that the immateriality of a thing is the reason why it is cognitive; and according to the mode of immateriality is the mode of knowledge. Hence it is said in De Anima ii that plants do not know, because they are wholly material. But sense is cognitive because it can receive images free from matter, and the intellect is still further cognitive, because it is more separated from matter and unmixed, as said in De Anima iii. Since therefore God is in the highest degree of immateriality as stated above (Question 7, Article 1), it follows that He occupies the highest place in knowledge. back |
Brooke Jarvis, How mosquitoes Changed Everything, ' “The words that are repeated to the point of nausea in the diaries, letters, and accounts of the Scottish settlers are mosquitoes, fever, ague, and death,” the historian Timothy C. Winegard writes in his sprawling new book, “The Mosquito: A Human History of Our Deadliest Predator” (Dutton). . . .
In total, Winegard estimates that mosquitoes have killed more people than any other single cause—fifty-two billion of us, nearly half of all humans who have ever lived. He calls them “our apex predator,” “the destroyer of worlds,” and “the ultimate agent of historical change.” ' back |
Claude E Shannon, A Mathematical Theory of Communication, 'The fundamental problem of communication is that of reproducing at one point either exactly or approximately a message selected at another point. Frequently the messages have meaning; that is they refer to or are correlated according to some system with certain physical or conceptual entities. These semantic aspects of communication are irrelevant to the engineering problem. The significant aspect is that the actual message is one selected from a set of possible messages.' back |

Fourteen Words - Wikipedia, Fourteen Words - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, ' Fourteen Words, 14, or 14/88, is a reference to the fourteen-word slogan "We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children," or the less commonly used "Because the beauty of the White Aryan woman must not perish from the earth." The slogans were originally coined by white supremacist David Lane, a founding member of the terrorist organization The Order and serve as a rallying cry for militant white nationalists across the globe. The terms were coined while he was serving a 190-year sentence in federal prison for his role in violating the civil rights of Jewish talk show host Alan Berg, who was murdered by another member of the group in June 1984. John Donne, Death be not proud, 'This is a quick and rough explication. I had no desire to write it, but I finally got exhausted by the sheer number and frequency of emails from people in varying stages of panic and confusion pleading for help in decrypting this poem. Normal distribution - Wikipedia, Normal distribution - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, 'Normal distributions are extremely important in statistics, and are often used in the natural and social sciences for real-valued random variables whose distributions are not known.[1][2] One reason for their popularity is the central limit theorem, which states that, under mild conditions, the mean of a large number of random variables independently drawn from the same distribution is distributed approximately normally, irrespective of the form of the original distribution.' back |
