We have evidence for the existence of natural and rational numbers but it may be that in our quantized universe real numbers do not actually exist, but represent a state where there is not yet any information present as is the case with general relativity, whose only actual property is 4 space with Minkowski metric.
Hunting; waiting; walking; nothing; but the process goes on for sure.

Why not commit suicide? Too much trouble and the flow of creation never ceases and people depend on me (although not so many now that family has grown up and left home).
The world has an infinite (indeterminate) foundation which gradually becomes determinate like the [formation of] the clear and distinct idea in mind.
[page 297]
But on the other hand feeling depressingly dumb because of a dearth of [exciting] clear and distinct ideas.

Now is a winter of my discontent. The moment of fear when it seems that the thesis will not work. Not really. I have confidence. Just have to convince the professors. They say I have gone off piste, not behaving like a proper philosopher. I am trying to convince them that there are a lot of things they have yet to see and I am beginning to reject my stance of abject docility and begin to get my teeth into arguing my case [which is what philosophers are supposed to do].
Lust is a potential, a physical potential with quantum mechanical consequences eventually leading to a clear and distinct orgasm.

I would like to be a philosopher as exciting as a musician.

From poetry to philosophy is from vagueness and infinity to definite statements [Homer to Aristotle].
[page 298]
Investigation is the poetic phase followed by indictment and court case to bring the thing home, the same as research and development in industry.
From feeling to argument.
All the output of the universe is digital. This means it can be expressed in a digital language. A word can refer to transfinite object, as my name refers to me, so language can be devised to refer to anything in the universe.
The beauty of a set is that it [need] carry no reference in its name to its cardinal or ordinal number.
Sets [things] are the basic symmetry of the formal universe.
A flow of output which has been cooked up in my mind while I was not watching. A watched mind never thinks, The female aspect of my mind is multiorgasmic.
Feeling: love at first sight followed by an infinity of detail.
Music comes before speech; continuum before discretum. The speech emerges from the music.
A watched mind cannot think which is why self consciousness impairs performance.
All this proves is that a) the universe is big, complex and creative enough to be called god; and b) we can talk about it
[page 299]
because it can be mapped onto a language, that is, it is a language, unlike the mysterious Christian god of old.

Aquinas, Summa Contra Gentiles and Summa Theologiae Thomas Aquinas: Summa Contra Gentiles (English Translation), Thomas Aquinas: Summa Theologica
Lonergan page xx: 'analogical and imperfect understanding of the Trinity is the objective of the current volume.'
page xxi: Crowe: Consciousness itself must first gain a place of honour in philosophy and theology.'
[This book] does not seem to add anything but a lot of scholastic jargon to Aquinas' treatment of the Trinity.
As we learn from quantum superposition, the world of possibility is filled with incoherent alternatives only one of which may be realized at a time just as a communication source can only emit one symbol at a time and I can only write one letter at a time to produce a historical string of orthogonal letters like this paragraph. The perfect being of theology is an impossible search for complete coherence.
Bonding / resonance / harmony / tuning applies at all levels from fundamental particles to romance and reproduction.

All interactions are fundamentally quantum mechanical, which gives us a handle on the size [complexity] of the universe [measured in quanta of action and light years]
Thesis chapter 3: The universe is built on the creation and annihilation of physical particles, each of these a quantum of action, and we allocate each quantum of action a point in spacetime, its address [this is how the universe speaks]. Things might be gradually coming clear. I hope so. Given a countably infinite foundation, we can construct a transfinite universe of ordered sets, of activities, ie computations. Sleep on it. Every action is a computation Turing computable.
Friday 16 August 2019
The standard view these days seems to be that the hardware the universe runs on is the fields of quantum field theory. This idea repeats the old idea that information (as carried by a field or form) is something spiritual rather than material, without any physical representative vehicles as we should learn from Landauer. Rolf Landauer: Information is a Physical Entity

This thesis differentiates its cosmic god from the traditional God documented by Aquinas on two principal grounds: the nature of spirit or spirituality and the extent
[page 301]
of divine control of the world. The foundations for this differentiation have been laid in the previous chapters and now it remains to outline the resulting structure.

The rot set in to my life when I decided, or was convinced, to supererogate and cut myself off from the pleasures of life when I was in my early teens, and have never really recovered. I cut myself off from my friends and real life, chasing a chimera, a total pack of lies, [a cult] which is probably why I have spent the last fifty years trying to replace Catholic dogma with something realistic and credible. A blighted life from which I hope tp recover something worth while. I am back in Adelaide near my old school where everything went wrong. All my old teachers are dead now and I am inclined
[page 303]
to say God rot their souls and curse myself for my naivety. I feel that I have about thirty years left to get things right. On the other hand, I do not need to be too hard on myself since I have always tried to really understand what is going on and moved, despite the cost, when I have worked out a clear direction. Being back at uni is very much like being in the Church having to listen to a lot of dodgy stuff which is a bit like the congealed custard of tradition. I have to toe the lines, however, if I want to get ahead and get an income from the philosophy trade.

Fortun, Mike, and Herbert J Bernstein, Muddling Through: Pursuing Science and Truths in the Twenty-First Century, Counterpoint 1998 Amazon editorial review:
'Does science discover truths or create them? Does dioxin cause cancer or not? Is corporate-sponsored research valid or not? Although these questions reflect the way we're used to thinking, maybe they're not the best way to approach science and its place in our culture. Physicist Herbert J. Bernstein and science historian Mike Fortun, both of the Institute for Science and Interdisciplinary Studies (ISIS), suggest a third way of seeing, beyond taking one side or another, in Muddling Through: Pursuing Science and Truths in the 21st Century. While they deal with weighty issues and encourage us to completely rethink our beliefs about science and truth, they do so with such grace and humor that we follow with ease discussions of toxic-waste disposal, the Human Genome Project, and retooling our language to better fit the way science is actually done.'

Jones, Gareth Stedman, Karl Marx: Greatness and Illusion, Bellnap Press 2016 Acknowledgements: '. . . However interesting Marx's life was, his enduring importance derives from the impact of the ideas he developed in a remarkable series of texts, whose status and meaning have been the occasion of fierce political arguments since their inception. Perhaps in order to steer clear of once violent and still simmering political passions surrounding these texts, scholarly biographers of Marx have tended to offer descriptive account of Marx's theoretical writings, and have preferred to concentrate on his life.
By contract, I have decided to may as much attention to his thought s to his life. I treat his writings as the interventions of an author within particular political and philosophical contexts that the historian must carefully reconstruct. For all his originality, Marx was not a solitary explorer advancing along an untrodden path toward a novel and hitherto undiscovered theory. Instead, whether as a philosopher, political theorist or critic of political economy, his writing were intended as interventions in already existing field of discourse. . . . That is why I have paid as much attention to the utterances and reactions of contemporaries as to Marx's own words.'

Lonergan, Bernard J F, and Michael G Shields (translator), Robert M Doran & H Daniel Monsour (editors), The Triune God: Systematics, University of Toronto Press 2007 Translated from De Deo Trino: Pars systematica (1964) by Michael G Shields. Amazon Product Description
'Buried for more than forty years in a Latin text written for seminarian students at the Gregorian University in Rome, Bernard Lonergan's 1964 masterpiece of systematic-theological writing, De Deo trino: Pars systematica, is only now being published in an edition that includes the original Latin along with an exact and literal translation. De Deo trino, or The Triune God, is the third great installment on one particular strand in trinitarian theology, namely, the tradition that appeals to a psychological analogy for understanding trinitarian processions and relations.
The analogy dates back to St Augustine but was significantly developed by St Thomas Aquinas. Lonergan advances it to a new level of sophistication by rooting it in his own highly nuanced cognitional theory and in his early position on decision and love. Suggestions for a further development of the analogy appear in Lonergan's late work, but these cannot be understood and implemented without working through this volume. This is truly one of the great masterpieces in the history of systematic theology, perhaps even the greatest of all time.'
