Phone: It takes a long time for a newborn to learn all the ropes of a standard religion and so we can expect the time taken to learn the ways of the physical divinity will probably be about the same. There is a lot to learn about care for people, for the planet, for animals and plants and insects.
Physical theology gives double value because you are learning physics, biology, psychology, politics, languages and everything else that a person needs to know at the same time. Theology is not really a separate discipline in a divine universe as there is no particular sacred knowledge to be learnt, it is all inclusive. Fundamentally it is all available in scientific texts and all the normal knowledge we need to live in a world of society, business and the rest, including grooming, sport etc etc etc, in other words nothing esoteric.
[page 58]
Lust for life must ultimately be socially controlled lust within the general specification of love god, love neighbour. In the context of the evolutionary paradigm this means that any practice to be established must be fit for reproduction and not destructive of the good and desirable features of a society.
We will try to simplify the picture as much as possible since down (?) at the level of the initial singularity things are very simple anyway. There is nothing much to be said about the Aquinas god or structureless [bare] gravitation than [that] they are eternal, omnipotent and without any structure. They are just an entity which a mathematician might describe as an empty set, ∅.
The above written while waiting for the land agent who never came to a meeting at 4.45 to sign my new lease, now booked for Monday 10 am.
It can be objected that replacing sources of religion like the Bible and the Mahabharata with physics is far too narrow a perspective, but we might counter this with the point made by Hopfield in his Nobel lecture that physics is a point of view which led to the
[page 59]
discipline of artificial intelligence for which he won the prize and we may also understand the Bible and other literature in every form as points of view rendered in physical form like this writing and take the general position that physics as a discipline covers all observable points of view. In the 'physical' world this covers all instrumentally measurable events which represent points of view taken by the underlying quantum mechanical systems. Physical literature represents points of view existing in the minds of its authors.

We might look upon bare gravitation as female, bearing the whole universe within itself [a goddess].
We see bare gravitation bifurcating into potential and kinetic energy [implemented in physical particles whose forms have been established by quantum intelligence]. We see energy as the rate of action, ie E = ℏω. But if potential energy and kinetic energy add up to zero, we can look upon them as anti-energies. Since we probably see action as a combination of action and anti-action, the thing connecting potential to kinetic energy.
Today, sitting at the bus stop with my phone flat waiting for the 300 bus at any moment, I came around again to the creation of time in Hilbert space as a preliminary to space-time, and the
[page 60]
quantum bifurcation of particles into fermions and bosons seems to relate in some way to the creation of spacetime. The first particle to emerge, the photon, is its own antiparticle and with sufficient energy a photon can 'decay' into an electron and a positron which have inverse properties so that a pair of them, on meeting, can create a new photon. All of this combining differentiating is reminiscence of Aquinas and Aristotle's description of thought processes, componens et dividens, a bit like modern particle physics [where energy is conserved by the interaction of kinetic and potential energy].
What is time? Aristotle probably got close when he called it 'the number of motion according to before and after', in other words it is inherently ordered [into past, present and future, and we cannot travel in time, that is move through it as we do in space]. We are inclined to imagine a statistical definition of time in terms of the second law, but it seems more granular than that. Singular unstable particles have fairly definite half lives, ie they die after a certain amount of time and creation and annihilation are discrete steps in time and they do have a sort of numerical order, creation taking us from 0 to 1 and annihilation from 1 to 0. Is this getting us any closer to anything?
we go back again to bare gravitation which we identify with Aquinas's god, absolutely simple and omnipotent, but then we introduce the random creation of Hilbert space and quantum
[page 61]
mechanics inside this eternal shell, made possible by the fact that we can accomodate many unit vectors as long as they are orthogonal, creating a multidimensional space in which these unit vectors can add to create more complex vectors subject to the constraint of Schröinger's equation and unitarity, the statistical property of communication sources which add one symbol at a time to their output.
So we go around and around, getting more complex and knocking the complexity down by quantum selection, although at the level of elementary particles we may think the variety of the new universe is fixed by the population of 60 or so elementary particles that keep reappearing when we inject enough energy into the collisions.
The sequence, in which time is already implicit, is eternal bare gravitation which like the Thomistic god stays bare and structureless per se (we might say) while at the same time imitating the Trinity by fixed point theory and acquiring a countably infinite forest of discrete orthogonal states which constitute a Hilbert space by the sequential creation and annihilation, going in no particular direction until quantum mechanics (ie superposition) emerges to extract fixed points with either integral or half integral spin and the half integral ones become massive fermions, particles, and anti-particles
[page 62]
We may say that evolution establishes time by creating a sequence of distinct organisms by the process of variation and selection and memory. We may guess that the elementary particles themselves do not evolve but exist as a set or group that exhausts all the possibilities, beginning with the division into fermions and bosons, particles and antiparticles and more complex hadrons but the real evolution does not begin until we come to atoms and molecules and a monotonic decrease in binding energy (a sort of meta-ethics) as the structures become more complex. This resulted from my first attempt to go to bed, having packed up the computers and books leaving myself with nothing but a mind and a notebook. Somewhere in here a synthesizing idea might emerge before I fall asleep, or not. [see Essay 1. Entropy and metaethics]

Moving from 4/454 Portrush Road to 142 Leicester Street Parkside. No new idea, and the usual worry about whether I am on the right track. The roots of modern physics and theology are clearly wrong but is my new story right? Maybe not as wrong because it is built on the "data" of theology, ie Thomistic god and Augustinian Trinity and the observed data of modern physics and the fundamental theory of quantum

mechanics. Feels good but no calculations, but we will rely on Feynman and Dirac for the idea that mathematics cannot be applied properly until the structure is known. [see Cognitive Cosmology: page 24: Is there an alternative to field theory?] The big blue in physics seems to be the idea that spacetime in continuous which creates the need for renormalization whereas the application of the quantum of action to Minkowski space shows that both momentum.space and energy.time are pixellated, which appears to be a significant bit of evidence showing that the quantum is 'printing through' from Hilbert space to Minkowski space via the particulate nature of bosons and fermions. Einstein was stymied because he could not create a particulate world out of continuous mathematics.
Will anybody see this, particularly prof Eagle (has he got the eyes to see it?)
Most things work out if you take your time (although I have been on this quest for 60 years and I am not home yet). Time is of the essence. The perfection of the universe is a function of the time it has taken to make itself.
Everything is particulate, starting with god, the empty set and the quantum of action.
This is where Einstein missed out. Why have so many people been
[page 64]
hooked on continuity? Because it is the only sort of causality they understand. We have long since replaced it with logical continuity, which operates in the first instance outside space and time, like the middle term in Aristotle's syllogism.
Moved at last but a bit exhausted walking the streets looking for milk and scraped into Coles by three minutes. Now come across a pizza shop open so all good. Now for a bit of theophysics. While I wait for my pizza. Feeling very confident about my AJP article and I hope prof X shows it to the physics profs and they are astounded. I wish I am right of course. A Nobel prize is possible in my lifetime and then I can settle down and enjoy my old aches and pains in profligate luxury,

My book is a radical new interpretation of quantum mechanics which was brought hope to me by the proposition that if the universe is divine physics and theology have the same subject which was brought home to me by John Hopfield's Nobel lecture 'Physics is a point of view' in which he explained his transition from solid state physics to artificial intelligence. This suggested that my idea (central to my book)
[page 65]
that quantum mechanics is the natural intelligence of the universe has considerable weight and so my book is a radical new theological interpretation of the world worthy of a prize in physics, theology or literature. I got to this position through 60 years of intuition and osmosis set off by my brief experience of ThomasAquinas and his assimilation of Aristotle to Christian theology in the Dominican Order. There I failed to make the cut as a Catholic priest and had to be expelled with a papal dispensation because I had made my solemn profession (in good faith) of perpetual poverty, chastity and obedience. My claim, which I could not in conscience abandon that the universe is divine, was anathema to the Catholic Church which has spent millennia killing heretics in the name of its false illusory god.
One might detect in me a trace of megalomania but I do not think that it is any more pathological than what we observe in the likes of Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump, or a very long succession of popes. The thesis of my book destroys the autocratic theocracy upon which these people base their right to terrorize and murder people who disagree with the theological position which they claim justifies their behaviour.

A difficult part is to explain the origin of time in the eternal initial singularity, and the only available avenue seems to be the advent of random states invoked by fixed point theory, given that the initial singularity fulfils the requirements of compact, convex and continuous. We might say that all these conditions follow from structurelessness, so that the significant implication of fixed point theory is that the lack of structure implies random structure, the foundation of evolution, and we then see that the superposition of random structure serves to single out stationary structures, perhaps in a sequential way, giving us a sequence of events equivalent to time, like the swing of a pendulum from potential to kinetic energy and back, conserving energy in its formal eternity of frictionless motion.
Trump, the churches and the right in general are scared of the world and hiding from it which is the why they want to shut dowb science to make room for their own fantasies. Science finds and verifies features of the world and then sets out to understand what this data means, how it fits together as we have managed to
[page 67]
create a theory of atomic electronic sructural relations that explains the set of spectral frequencies we observe in atoms. The basic processes are described by the Schrödinger equation and we observe them in Minkowski space transformed by the special principle of covariance. This is a question where the answer is crucial to establishing that Hilbert space underlies Minkowski space rather than vice versa We have to get down to this level of nitty gritty in Lust for Life [the comprehensive application of quantum physics to the generation of structure in the universe and communal culture among people].
We compute the behaviour of atomic electrons using the Schrödinger equation to find momentum and energy and then apply the Lorentz transformation to arrive at the observed quantities. Will this work. We must try it by using the Picture Book of Quantum Mechanics PTO* Brandt & Dahmen (1995): The Picture Book of Quantum Mechanics
The abdication of the US from the Western democratic foundation was very depressing, as are the continuing wars by theocratic autocrats against innocent people but in the end the solutions must be political and I have to pack everything I know into Lust-4-Life. I am slightly doubtful of the title of this site and book and will spend the next few days thinking it over as I settle in to my new home and look forward to beginning steady work. I might also think about doing the next[page 68]

David Smith: Trump is ignoring the power of nationalism at his own peril:
Sovereign land is not real estate. In a world of nation states defined by territory even sparsely inhabited territory has "sacred value". This is particularly true for people seeking statehood on their land.
"Sacred values" are things people see an non-negotiable because they are linked to their sense of identity and the moral order in the world. Researchers warn that offering money in exchange for sacred values is deeply offensive, and likely to harm, rather than help, negotiations. David Smith (2025_03_20): Trump is ignoring the power of nationalism at his own peril
Richard Gunderman: Susan B Anthony: "The older I get, the greater power I seem to have to help the world, I am like a snowball — the further I roll the more I gain."
* [from previous page] Does this mean anything. At this point electrons and protons do not exist and so we cannot apply the pure Schrödinger equation to them, or more precisely, we are talking about an epoch after the emergence of bosons and fermions and Minkowski space has come into existence and so in effect Lorentz transformation and the Dirac equation is already built into the system. What about field theory? We have been working on[page 69]
the idea that all the interactions of bosons and fermions are cone to one controlled by the DNA of these particles, ie the self adjoint operators carried in each particle [so that] when the particles interact, the operators form a tensor product space together which determines the outcome of the interaction and on average what we are seeing is the superposition of a lot of Feynman diagrams built from the eigenfunctions of these linear operators, interacting with one another so that the full spectrum of the interactions are defined by the Born rule with appropriate statistical weights.
This approach preserves a lot of the Feynman mechanism but it does not introduce continuity and the need for remormalization because at most we are dealing with a countable infinity of discrete interactions. How do we put this together mathematically if it is the right idea? It may be, as Zurek seems to suggest, that only one pair of eigenvectors, one from each of the interacting particles are operative in each event and the statistical distribution over a set of discrete interactions between discrete particles, like brief interactions between people rather than each interaction involving the complete spectrum of the eigenvalues of each particle. We are proceeding by analogy with respect to complexity which seems to have a good foundation in the unitarity of the Schrödinger equation if I understand it rightly. I am having a hiatus, or is it a holiday? Sleeping a lot and looking for direction, a vector in my personal Hilbert space. Part of the situation is failures in both my computers so the transcription service is partly in limbo. Latin hiare to gape. Limbus = border, hem. Frustration frustrate to disappoint. Worried as usual by the thickness of the ice holding cognitive cosmogenesis above water. Where is the weak spot? Is it the radical plan of making Hilbert space the source of Minkowski space [through the medium of bosons and fermions]?
My current key theological point is the identification of the god of Aquinas with bare / naked / structureless gravitation grounding god at the foundation of the universe rather than imagining them as the imaginary creator on high downloading infallibility onto the pope and creating a deterministic universe as a puppet of a divinity that controls every move. The evolutionary paradigm beginning from zero energy and zero form, controlled only by contradictions opens the universe to filling the whole space of divine consistency. The power of my book lies in uniting this theological ansatz with the physical ansatz based on Hilbert space. I am quite confident about this. The devil, if there
[page 71]
is one, is hiding in the details and the purpose of lust for life is to ferret all these details out and shone light on them to create a stable political platform that unites the second law democracy and peaceful stability.
Maybe the time has come to publish these notes on something like substack, referring to the backstory on jeffreynicholls.net.
I fought reality and reality won. What I am seeking to do is to show that democracy is the only stable political situation and so it will prevail in the long run. The essence of this proof is the idea that the intelligence of quantum mechanics in fact extracts stable situations from the chaos in the meaningless and completely random initial singularity and thus stability is now endemic in the real world and the application of symmetry with respect to complexity (one of my two fundamental principles) means that this same approach to stability will prevail in a realm of human chaos, and it may be that Trump's creation of chaos will eventually settle into a more stable world system devised by quantum intelligence rather than Turing intelligence. Perhaps the core of lust for life may be stated through a set of principles which are outlined in the various summaries of creation introduced in lust-for-life, the creation of life by

Thinking of going to UK for the launch of my book. This may inspire me to write a new blurb, a more succinct statement of what the book is about. Checked old burb. It will do. Disney: Snow White

The essential discipline for peaceful society is politics and we assume that the intelligent foundation for politics in the universe is a combination of quantum mechanics and gravitation. Gravitation, we might say is indiscriminate (codeless) communication which connects everything regardless of its formal structure. Quantum mechanics introduces selection or discrimination into gravitation by separating systems capable of reproducing themselves out of primordial chaos and we find that these systems fall into three categories, electromagnetic, the weak force and the strong force. These are currently described by quantum field theory which is a derivative of Einstein gravitation but field theory is inconsistent with quantum theory which is a fatal error for field theory (see Kuhlmann): What it QFT:
In contrast to many other physical theories there is no canonical definition of what QFT is. Instead one can formulate a number of totally different explications, all of which have their merits and limits. One reason for this diversity is the fact that QFT has grown successively in a very complex way. Another reason is that the interpretation of QFT is particularly obscure, so that even the spectrum of options is not clear. Possibly the best and most comprehensive understanding of QFT is gained by dwelling on its relation to other physical theories, foremost with respect to QM, but also with respect to classical electrodynamics, Special Relativity Theory (SRT) and Solid State Physics or more generally Statistical Physics. However, the connection between QFT and these theories is also complex and cannot be neatly described step by step. Meinard Kuhlmann (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy): Quantum Field Theory [QFT]
This means that my approach has a chance. Our
[page 73]
principal guide is the principle of symmetry with respect to complexity operated in reverse. Human interactions are all one on one, even though they may take place in the context of a set of communal beliefs that characterize a [language] religion or a community. Such communal beliefs may constitute a 'field' but the individual interactions control the actual application of the field. We take this picture down from human interactions to the action of elementary particles, and we understand that each of these particles, like individual humans, carries a "psychological" state embedded in its physical reality ("brain") which controls its contribution to the Hilbert tensor product space in which the particles (humans) interact. We understand the 'mental' content of fundamental particles to be the forms selected by quantum mechanics which are realized substantially by the receipt of potential and kinetic energy arising from the zero sum bifurcation of bare gravitation.
We should rewrite the principles section of cognitive cosmology and cognitive cosmogenesis as the backbone or skeleton of lust-for-life, thus fulfilling Einstein's prescription for a theory of principle. In the cognitive world, however, we do not admit general covariance, but we see all interactions as taking place in the shared tensor product space of the interacting particles. The outcome of the communication is a consequence of the contribution of both sources / persons / particles.
[page 74]
I am in a period of hiatus [I repeat]. A job finished, moved, a stable household at last and looking for the next move. In six months or so I might go to the UK to promote my book, but I would like to be deep in the next one by then. The first step, I see now, is to revise the principles, to lay a foundation for my future, the salient feature of the observable physical divinity upon and within which the world is built. Now a walk down the street to the market, Woolworths this time. The universe is divine, sacred and our natural home and we should treat it as a church. The care of the planet is a non-negotiable duty for all of us [and those who damage it must be restrained].
