All my interests in life ultimately revolve around receiving and transmitting information embodied as food, writing, snorkelling or in any other form. It is reasonable to assume that I am typical of all particles in the Universe in this regard adding weight to the hypothesis that the best way to look at the Universe is as a communication network.

From a 'green' point of view the task is to satisfy our needs for embodied information with minimum impact on global physiology, which can be summed up in the long term by moving toward total recycling of the material information carriers (as in electrical circuits vis-a-vis electrons), the reception of all our energy directly from the sun without involving planetary physiological systems like 'biomass'.

The basis of trade is valuable information for money, or in most general terms, value for value, where each entity measures value in terms of its own fitness. What do I want? To be able to tell people what they want to hear, like a musician, give people what they want enough to pay for, subject to some moral or ethical constraints designed to maintain the integrity of the trading system and the individuals involved in it.
